0414 785 502 has been reported as a suspicious number impersonating Telstra. Learn how to handle calls from it and protect yourself from potential scams.

The phone number 0414 785 502 / 0414785502 has raised numerous red flags among users, with accounts suggesting it is a suspicious call claiming to represent Telstra, one of Australia's major telecommunications companies. The nature of the call described indicates a possible scam attempt to obtain sensitive information by preying on concerns regarding internet security.

In a user report dated 10 July 2023, a male caller with an Indian accent identified himself as "Logan" from Telstra. The caller, who struggled with English and was unable to provide direct answers when pressed about specific details, warned the recipient that their IP address was "showing up on a VPN in California." This is a common tactic used by scammers to create urgency and panic, leading individuals to disclose personal information without due caution.

Given this context, it is prudent to classify 0414 785 502 / 0414785502 as a suspicious number, potentially linked to a phishing scam. The lack of clarity from the caller and their inability to give specific details about the situation further suggest that this is not an authentic concern raised by Telstra.

For those receiving calls from this number, it is advisable to:

  • Avoid engaging with the caller or providing any personal information.
  • Hang up immediately if the caller claims to represent a legitimate company.
  • Contact the company directly using official contact numbers found on their website to verify any claims made about your account.
  • Report the call to local authorities or services such as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

Utilising a service like Reverseau for a reverse phone lookup may also provide added peace of mind by helping you identify callers before answering. If you suspect you may be a target of such scams, staying informed and cautious is key in safeguarding your personal information.

A man with an Indian accent, who spoke poor English, called me claiming to be Logan from Telstra. He warned me that my IP address was showing up on a VPN in California and insisted that we need to check my current IP address for verification. When I asked for the specific IP, he became confused and eventually hung up the phone.
