    As several above. Rang within minutes of Gumtree ad being submitted and wanted the item sent across Australia by "aramex". Number is laboriously spelt out and "isn't available" added. It's blocked now.

    How did they get the number so quickly?

    SCAMMER BEWARE! Like others have said, messaged me via WhatsApp straight after posting an ad via Gumtree. Instant red flag then said they had already paid for a courier and sent a link. Didn’t even click link just knew it was fake!!

    Within minutes of posting a Gumtree ad I received a Whats App message from this number. Apparently payment would be made to my local Aus Post…How would they even know which is my local? Then I would have to accept the funds and a courier would be in touch to arrange delivery to Geraldton from Perth WA. My ad clearly stipulates pick up only due to bulky size. Many red flags. Typos, incorrect grammar etc. Postage alone would be many times over my asking price. Clearly a scam. I played along for a bit asking how best it be packaged etc, did they need to know weight and dimensions? All the things required for the freight company I would presume. No response.

    This is defiantly a scam, responding to a Gumtree advertisement coming through WhatsApp, suggesting they use couriers please for freight and will not give an address, a rough address of Geraldton in WA was given but I'm assuming that was just plucked out of thin air.

    I had the exact same experience, responded as soon as I listed a product on Gumtree, then wanted me to use the courier please service saying they lived in Wa and then sent a fake link requesting my credit card details, beware of this scam!!!

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
