What You Need to Know About 0412 769 371

The phone number 0412 769 371 / 0412769371 has raised alarm bells among Australian users, being reported as a potential scam call originating from an individual claiming to be from Telstra, one of Australia’s leading telecommunications providers. Such calls typically aim to deceive unsuspecting recipients into divulging sensitive information under false pretences.

The Scam Explained

During an incident reported on 08/07/2021, a user described how the caller presented themselves as a Telstra representative. The caller aggressively claimed that the user’s internet was being hacked and urged them to turn on their computer for assistance. This behaviour is characteristic of what is known as a “tech support scam.” These scams often leverage common fears regarding cybersecurity to escalate urgency and manipulate targets into compliance by asking them to provide access to personal devices or sensitive information.

Receiving a call from 0412 769 371? Here are some steps you can take to protect yourself:

  • Do Not Engage: If the caller seems suspicious, it's best to end the conversation politely and hang up.
