Suspicious Missed Call Notifications from 04 1202 2290

A contributor has reported receiving fake missed call notifications from 04 1202 2290 (also written as 0412022290) without the phone actually ringing. The caller did not leave a message, yet the phone displayed a standard "you missed a call" notification. This unusual pattern repeated approximately 20 minutes later with identical behaviour.

The contributor had their phone within reach both times, confirming they would have heard an actual ring had one occurred. This suggests the notifications were generated artificially rather than resulting from genuine incoming calls. The number 0412022290 is registered to Optus mobile and has been blocked by the contributor.

What This Pattern Indicates

Missed call notifications without corresponding phone rings are sometimes used in callback scam attempts. The tactic exploits curiosity - recipients may call back to find out who tried to reach them, potentially connecting to a premium service, scam line, or data harvesting operation.

The timing of two notifications within 20 minutes from 04 1202 2290 suggests deliberate repetition rather than system error, particularly since the contributor was actively monitoring their phone during both incidents.

Although the phone did NOT ring the message said "you missed a call, but the caller didn't leave a message". Only a 20 or so minutes later the situation repeated - I had my phone within a reach.

The number has been blocked, of course.
