Nature of the Scam

Reports consist predominantly of scripted conversations where callers make unsolicited offers, typically around 30% discounts on mobile or internet bills due to reasons like loyalty or Covid-19. However, these offers come with a twist—they request personal identifiable information, such as date of birth. This approach is a common tactic used by scammers to access private accounts or commit identity theft.

User Experiences

  • In instances where individuals asked for verification or the caller's details, the scammer often ended the call abruptly, indicating a lack of genuine business intent.
  • The pattern of behaviour exhibited—pressuring callers for information—was consistent across various reports and reaffirms this number's fraudulent nature.

Scam same Indian woman wanting DOB offering a discount.

I also received a call from 0418 256 300 an Indian lady (of course) saying I would be getting a 30% discount on my Telstra bill she wanted my DOB which I refused to give, I said send me an email, which she said she would after I gave my DOB, I said what are my details of my account number, she became flustered, I then said this smells like a scam, I got the Oh no no (probably with a head wobble) I said, this is really a scam, admit it, she then hung up, this was a poor attempt at identity fraud. Watch out people and don't trust any out of the blue calls by Indians.

Received a call but they hung up before I could answer. Called back straight away but got a message that the number wasn't available. Sounds dodgy to me so I've blocked it.

This number called me today saying they were from Telstra and would offer 30% off mobile bill for 3 months due to Covid. She asked for my DOB and I asked her for the account number and she hung up DO NOT REPLY TO THIS PERSON.

I received a call from this number saying they are from Optus and giving me a 30% discount on my Optus bill for being loyal.

They then asked me to confirm my dob. I told them this seems like a scam to which she sent me a text message with a code.

She then asked me to read the code out to her which I said is something you should never do.

She kept pushing and harassing me and told me that if I read her the code she can bring up my whole Optus account and confirm my identity.

This is a scam.
