Classification: Scam

Based on user reviews, it’s evident that this number is involved in a specific type of scam known as "online buying scams." Victims report making significant payments for items that never materialise, only to discover that the phone number and the alleged seller's identity are linked to fraudulent activities.

The Scam: How It Works

Here’s how the scam typically unfolds:

  • Contacting via Listings: The scammer reaches out to potential buyers responding to classified ads on sites like Gumtree.
  • Creating False Confidence: Using names that sound familiar or typically Australian, such as "Tanya Omaro" or "Fatima Omar," they attempt to build a rapport. Victims often describe these individuals as convincing and personable.
  • Requesting Payment: Scammers often push victims to make urgent bank transfers with little information and no guarantees. Payment requests are disguised under legitimate propositions.
  • Disappearing Act: Once payment is completed, the scammer cuts off all communication. Victims are left without recourse for their lost funds.

Scam

Hey I just posted the comment below. I have reported this incident to the ANZ Bank with the account details given by the scammer however there doesn't seem that too much is going to be done about it. Maybe that is why it continues to happen - because the authorities don't care. I can be contacted on 0438954420. Maybe if there is more than one complaint something might be eventually done. It is disgusting.

Scam

Hey, I also posted a wanted ad on Gumtree for an expensive bag. Got contacted by this number on 7 March 2016 and stupidly fell for the scam. Paid $300 into bank account of Fatima Omar. Sounds a lot like the posting above. Obviously never received goods and the female scammer sms and even rang me several times to reassure me that she was a legit seller. Sounded very Australian speaking and super confident. Phone has been off ever since. Shame on you whoever you are.

About This Report

This page is part of the Reverseau Scam Intelligence Database, a community-driven dataset maintained by Reverseau since 2014. The database documents caller behaviour across Australian phone numbers based on first-hand user experiences.

Each entry is generated when individuals who received calls or messages from a number submit a report through our review form. Reports include a caller safety rating (1–5 scale) and a written account of the interaction. All submissions are moderated before publication.

The safety rating shown on this page reflects the collective assessment of 0403 572 560 by real users. It measures perceived caller risk, not the quality of this page. A low rating indicates that reporters consider this number likely to be associated with scam or spam activity.
