Telstra Impersonation Reports for 04 0080 7590

Multiple contributors have reported receiving calls from 04 0080 7590 (also written as 0400807590) from callers falsely claiming to represent Telstra. The pattern is consistent across reports: a woman with an Indian accent calls offering deals, then pivots to requesting a 6-digit verification code that was sent via an unsolicited text message. The unsolicited text claims to be from Microsoft and references an account password reset, but contributors report this is part of the scam setup.

Two separate reports about 0400807590 describe the caller becoming increasingly aggressive and rude when contributors refused to provide the requested code. One contributor noted the caller insisted that providing the 6-digit code was necessary to add their number to the Do Not Call list - a false claim designed to pressure compliance.

What Callers from 04 0080 7590 Claim and Demand

Callers from 04 0080 7590 typically begin by claiming affiliation with Telstra and offering deals or promotions. When asked to be removed from the call list, they falsely state that a 6-digit verification code must be confirmed to process the removal request. This code arrives via unsolicited text messages purporting to be from Microsoft account security.

Contributors who answered 04 0080 7590 describe the caller's tone escalating from persuasive to demanding and hostile when the requested code was refused. One contributor reported receiving multiple follow-up calls from 0400807590 and a linked number (0408 499 213) after initial refusal, suggesting deliberate persistence rather than legitimate customer service.

Call Patterns and Reporting Behaviour

Four reports about 04 0080 7590 span from late October to early November 2025. The calls were answered by contributors, with one also receiving a silent call from the same number. One contributor reported that after refusing the initial demand, the caller made repeated calls from 0400807590 and a secondary number, forcing them to block both.

The rapid succession of calls and use of multiple numbers suggests a coordinated effort to pressure the target into compliance. Contributors blocked 04 0080 7590 after repeated contact, and at least one reported both numbers to authorities.

Understanding This Type of Scam

The scam using 04 0080 7590 exploits trust in major Australian brands like Telstra and Microsoft. Scammers send unsolicited verification codes (often real codes sourced through data breaches or credential stuffing attacks) then call to demand those codes, falsely claiming it's required for legitimate processes like Do Not Call registration. The aggressive escalation when refused is designed to pressure anxious targets into compliance. Real Telstra customer service will never operate this way, and Microsoft will never send unsolicited password reset codes to random numbers.

SCAM!! Received a call from 0400 807 590, a woman (indian accent) claiming to be from Telstra offering deals. I asked her to remove me from her call list. She insisted that in order to add me to the Do Not Call list I'd need to confirm a 6 digit code she sent me via an unsolicited text (the text says its from Microsoft and is a password account reset code). I refused, she became very rude and demanding. I hung up and she repeatedly called from this and another number, I had to block and report both of them. Other number is: 0408 499 213.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is 04 0080 7590 asking for a 6-digit code sent via text?

Callers from 04 0080 7590 are attempting credential theft. They falsely claim the code is needed to add you to the Do Not Call list, but this is a scam tactic. Real Do Not Call registration doesn't require providing verification codes to callers. The codes are typically obtained through data breaches and used to gain access to your accounts (Microsoft, email, banking apps). Never provide codes received in unsolicited texts to anyone who calls you.

Is the caller really from Telstra?

No. Multiple contributors who received calls from 04 0080 7590 and verified by contacting Telstra directly confirmed the calls are not from Telstra. Real Telstra representatives will not call unsolicited offering deals, will not demand verification codes, and will not become aggressive or rude. If you need to contact Telstra, call 133 200 directly using the number on your bill or Telstra's official website.

What should I do if I already gave my code to 04 0080 7590?

Contact the organisation the code relates to immediately. If the unsolicited text claiming to be from Microsoft, change your Microsoft account password straight away at account.microsoft.com. If the code was for email or another account, change that password too. Monitor your bank and financial accounts for suspicious activity. Report the incident to ACMA (acma.gov.au) and Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au) to flag 0400807590 as a live scam threat.

Will blocking 04 0080 7590 stop the calls?

Blocking the number will prevent further calls from 04 0080 7590 reaching you. However, one contributor reported that after refusing the initial demand, the scammer called back from a different number (0408 499 213). Be prepared to block multiple numbers if needed. Report all suspicious numbers to ACMA and your phone provider. If calls persist from different numbers, consider whether you've been added to a scam target list and monitor your accounts closely.

Why did the caller become aggressive when I refused?

Scammers using 04 0080 7590 become hostile because refusal means the scam has failed for that target. The aggression and rudeness are designed as a last-ditch pressure tactic to intimidate you into changing your mind. Legitimate organisations never behave this way. This aggressive escalation is a confirmed red flag of a scam - hang up immediately and do not re-engage if they call back.

Should I report 04 0080 7590 to my phone provider?

Yes. Contact your phone provider (in this case, the number is allocated to Telstra) and report 0400807590 as a scam number. Providers can flag numbers for investigation and may restrict their use. Additionally, report the number to ACMA (acma.gov.au), which can investigate telecommunications fraud and take action. Filing reports about 04 0080 7590 with multiple authorities creates a clearer picture of the scam and helps protect other Australians.
