What Our Users Reviewed
Male with thick accent claimed to be Zac from Telstra Security.
He claimed that he was calling to advise my IP address had been hacked and he was calling to sort this out.
Told him I don’t have any connection to Telstra.
He told me that everyone in Australia is connected to Telstra.
I told him that wasn’t entirely true.
He then said if you don’t comply, there will be more problems with my account and I needed to open up my settings and read out my IP address.
Told him that if this was a genuine call, for him to hang up and I would call him back.
He told me it didn’t work that way.
I then terminated the call and blocked the scammer’s number.
⚠️SCAMMER.
African or indian male claiming to be Zack from Telstra Security.
Told me I must give him my IP address urgently as they have reason to believe my account had been hacked.
I said no.
He said it was a matter or urgency as there were suspicious activities connected to my account which needed to be handled immediately.
Said I wasn’t with Telstra and he said “ok, that’s fine, I still need you to read out the IP address as it was flagged in their security department, so I must have my account with Telstra”
He then said, aggressively, “put your phone on speaker, open the settings and read out the IP address on your phone”
I simply hung up and blocked.
Male claiming to be from Telstra Security called me to say that there was serious issues with my IP address. He said I must have shared it with someone and he just wanted to check that I had / hadn’t. Male had difficult to understand accent. There was call centre chat in the background.
I know I have absolutely NO affiliations with Telstra so I said to him “can you give me you a call back in 2 minutes? Do I just call back on this number you have called me on?”
He screamed at me and said “no you can’t call me back, there will be further issues if you keep putting this off, you need to give me your IP address now”
I said “I literally can’t speak at the moment, I will call you back” (please note - I have no intention on calling back)
He continued to get more abusive and said “we need to sort this now”
I said “well I can’t talk now” and hung up and blocked.
Another scam.
I just got a call from a hard to understand guy called Zack / Jack claiming to be calling from Telstra Security.
The background noise sounded like a busy call centre environment.
He claimed my IP address had been compromised and I needed to “think very carefully” as to who I’ve shared this with.
I told him he was mistaken as I’m in no way affiliated with Telstra.
He then demanded I put my phone on speaker and go into settings yo retrieve my IP address. He said by doing this, he could confirm or deny I was with Telstra.
I said “I can save you the time and tell you again, I am not with Telstra”
He then started screaming at me that if I don’t do it, who knows what will happen.
I said “for the third time, I am not with Telstra” he then screamed “EVERYBODY IS WITH Telstra”
Evening scam caller claiming to be from Telstra Security. Male was very difficult to understand. He claimed my IP address had been hacked. He asked me if I had given anyone permission to use my IP address or if I had shared it. I told him.
I think he had the wrong person. He got verbally aggressive and said that while we were speaking, there was more activity happening. He demanded I put my phone on speaker and open the phone settings. I said to him I’m not with Telstra, so I believe he has the wrong person. He then screamed “everyone is f*king with Telstra, now read out the IP address on your phone”
I took this opportunity to simply hang up and block.
SCAM WANTING IP ADDRESS.
A guy with Indian accent claimed to be from Telstra Security wanted to tell me my IP address had been compromised. He claimed that I had obviously shared it with someone I didn’t trust and that they have done something. (I thought yeah I bet - it will be you if I share it with you).
I asked his name and he said “Telstra Security” I thought this odd as usually a genuine called would say “hi, I’m.
________ from ________ “ however not the case. He told me I needed to follow his “important instructions” and to put my phone on speaker to read out the IP address.
I told him I was currently driving (not really) and would have to find somewhere safe to pull over to do this, so asked if I could call him back on the number he had called me from. He got aggressive and stated I needed to read it out immediately if I was to take him seriously.
I said I would call him back in a few minutes which sent him into a tirade of abuse. I clearly hung up at this point.
SCAMMER POSING AS Telstra SECURITY 🚨🚨🚨
Just received a call from this number where the guy with a ridiculously difficult to understand accent (possibly indian / african) called “Zach”.
“Zach” claimed to be from Telstra Security to advise my IP address had been hacked.
He went through the script asking questions such as:
Do you share your wifi account?
Have you used public wifi?
Have you given your IP address to anyone?
All while he was chewing food rather loudly which I told him was extremely rude and if he wanted to speak to me, he could put the food away until we finished our call.
He wanted me to put my phone on speaker and open my settings to read out the IP address.
I told him I wasn’t going to and he got aggressive and said “more people are hacking into your account as we speak, so you better read it out to me now”
I again told him no and he got even more aggressive again saying he was from Telstra Security and this was a serious matter.
I told him I’m not with Telstra to which he replied that I did and he had my account right in front of him.
I then replied “ok then, what is my name and address?”
He said he can’t disclose that information for privacy reasons to which I replied “well for privacy reasons I cannot give you my IP address”
With that I hung up on the scammer and blocked the number.
