Repeated Calls Scam Reports for 03 9961 6159

One contributor has flagged 03 9961 6159 (also written as 0399616159) for a concerning pattern of repeated calls in quick succession. The caller claimed affiliation with iSelect, a major Australian insurance comparison service, but the contributor found the interaction suspicious enough to hang up and block the number immediately.

The report about 0399616159 describes a deliberate call-stacking approach, with three missed calls arriving within a 26-minute window (16:16 to 16:42), followed by a fourth call nearly 90 minutes later at 18:07. This pattern of aggressive callback attempts suggests pressure tactics designed to catch someone off-guard.

What the Caller from 03 9961 6159 Claimed

When the contributor finally answered the fourth call from 03 9961 6159, they were greeted by a person with a strong accent who identified themselves as "Annie" claiming to represent iSelect. The contributor found the caller extremely difficult to understand, which is a common red flag in overseas-based scams impersonating legitimate Australian service providers.

The lack of clear communication, combined with the iSelect name-drop and repeated calling pattern, suggests this may be a phishing or social engineering attempt rather than a genuine service enquiry. Contributors should note that legitimate service providers typically do not use this high-frequency callback approach.

Call Patterns and Timing

The calls from 03 9961 6159 occurred on a Wednesday afternoon and early evening, spanning over 90 minutes. The rapid succession of three calls within 26 minutes (16:16 to 16:42) followed by a delayed fourth call (18:07) suggests an automated dialling system or manual persistence targeting. This timing pattern is common in scam operations that attempt to wear down recipients into answering.

The contributor's immediate response-hanging up and blocking 0399616159-prevented any further contact, so no additional details about caller persistence beyond 18:07 are available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did 03 9961 6159 call me multiple times in quick succession?

The contributor who reported 03 9961 6159 (0399616159) received three calls within 26 minutes, followed by a fourth call 90 minutes later. This rapid-fire callback pattern is typical of scam operations using automated diallers or manual persistence to increase the likelihood of someone answering. Legitimate businesses rarely use this high-frequency approach.

Is 0399616159 really calling from iSelect?

The caller claiming to represent iSelect was extremely difficult to understand and used aggressive repeated-call tactics-both red flags for scam impersonation. iSelect is a legitimate Australian company, but scammers frequently impersonate well-known brands to build false credibility. Always verify by contacting iSelect directly using the number on your policy or their official website, never by calling back 03 9961 6159.

What should I do if 03 9961 6159 calls me?

Do not answer or return the call. If you do answer, hang up immediately and block the number. Do not share any personal information. If you want to verify whether the caller was legitimate, independently look up the organisation's official contact number and phone them directly-do not use any number provided by the person who called 0399616159.

Why is a strong accent and difficult-to-understand caller suspicious?

While accent alone is not definitive, combined with the repeated-calls pattern and iSelect impersonation claim reported for 03 9961 6159, it suggests an overseas-based operation. Many scam centres operate from countries where English is not the primary language, and they often target Australian numbers using spoofed local area codes like the 03 (Victoria) prefix in 0399616159.

Should I report 03 9961 6159 to iSelect or the authorities?

Report to both. Contact Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au) and ACMA (acma.gov.au) with details of your call from 03 9961 6159 or 0399616159. Also notify iSelect directly so they can investigate the impersonation and protect other customers. The more reports authorities receive about this number, the faster action can be taken.

Can I block 03 9961 6159 on my phone?

Yes. After receiving a call from 03 9961 6159 (0399616159), you can block the number in your phone's settings. On most smartphones, open the call log, find the number, and select 'Block' or 'Block Contact.' Additionally, register your number with the Do Not Call Register at donotcall.gov.au to opt out of unwanted telemarketing calls.
