ANZ Bank Impersonation Reports for 03 9955 3000

Community reports for 03 9955 3000 (also written as 0399553000) reveal a persistent pattern of ANZ bank impersonation scams. Multiple contributors have confirmed that callers claiming to represent ANZ are fraudulent. When recipients called ANZ directly using official contact numbers, ANZ confirmed they did not make the calls and that 0399553000 is not associated with their organisation.

The sophistication of these scams targeting 03 9955 3000 is concerning. Callers already possess victims' full names and reference legitimate ANZ services like PayID, creating a false sense of authenticity. One contributor noted that ANZ's own website displays warnings about increased scam activity mimicking their calls, and this number appears to be part of that trend.

What Callers from 03 9955 3000 Claim

Callers impersonating ANZ through 03 9955 3000 use several consistent tactics. They reference PayID accounts and claim to need verification of transactions or security holds on accounts. Several reports describe callers from 0399553000 already knowing the recipient's full name when they answer, which creates credibility but actually indicates data sourcing from previous breaches.

The fraudsters calling from 03 9955 3000 then escalate by requesting personal identification details over the phone. One contributor received a call where the scammer referenced a bad Facebook purchase and attempted to extract additional banking information. When recipients became suspicious and hung up, callers from 0399553000 sometimes called back repeatedly, leaving no voicemail messages.

Contributors report that the callback number or reference number provided by callers from 03 9955 3000 cannot be verified through ANZ's official channels. When victims independently verified with ANZ, the organisation confirmed they have no record of outbound calls from 0399553000.

Legitimate Calls vs Scams from This Number

Notably, among the 33 total reports for 03 9955 3000, a small number describe what appear to be genuine ANZ verification calls. Contributors reported ANZ contacting them about large transactions or security holds, with helpful outcomes. However, these legitimate interactions appear to use different calling patterns and do not request personal identification details in the same manner as the scams.

The presence of both legitimate and fraudulent reports for 0399553000 makes this number particularly dangerous. Scammers benefit from the confusion, leveraging ANZ's legitimate use of the number to create false credibility. Contributors should treat any personal information request from 03 9955 3000 with extreme caution, regardless of how legitimate the caller sounds.

Call Patterns and Timing

Reports about 03 9955 3000 span from mid-2024 through January 2026, showing sustained activity. Many calls from 0399553000 go unanswered and leave no voicemail, consistent with scammer behaviour where no legitimate message needs to be left. Some calls show poor audio quality with background noise suggesting a call centre operation.

Multiple reports indicate callers from 03 9955 3000 will call back if the initial call is rejected, sometimes repeatedly. This persistence is characteristic of professional scam operations testing different tactics or attempting to catch the recipient off-guard on a second attempt.

I WOULDN'T ANSWER A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER!!! I received a call from this number, using my full name asking to talk about my PAY ID from ANZ, I have not flagged anything PAY ID related with ANZ so thought it was strange, I hung up when they started to ask personal questions for identification and they called back but have left no message and I did not answer. As soon as I answered the original call I just had a gut feeling it was scam and better to be safe than sorry and not give details over the phone if unsure - if ANZ really need me they can find another way to contact me! Be safe as I think Scammers are getting more "legit" also if you go on ANZ site they have a warning about increase in scam calls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 03 9955 3000 actually ANZ Bank?

No. Multiple contributors have called ANZ using official contact numbers and confirmed that 03 9955 3000 (0399553000) is not associated with ANZ. ANZ themselves do not recognise this number. The calls are fraudulent impersonations. Real ANZ contact numbers are available on ANZ's official website or your bank card.

Why do callers from 0399553000 already know my name?

Scammers obtain personal information like names and sometimes addresses through data breaches. When a caller from 03 9955 3000 already knows your full name, it appears to add credibility to their false claim of being from ANZ. This knowledge does not mean the call is legitimate - it means your data has been compromised elsewhere.

What should I do if 03 9955 3000 asks about my PayID?

Hang up immediately. ANZ will never call you unsolicited asking for PayID verification or personal identification details over the phone. If you receive such a call from 0399553000 or any number claiming to be ANZ, this is a scam tactic. If you have genuine concerns about your PayID, log into your ANZ app or website directly, or call ANZ using the number on your card.

What if the caller from 03 9955 3000 says my card is blocked or there's a security hold?

This is a common scam tactic used by callers impersonating ANZ through 0399553000. Do not provide any information. Hang up and call ANZ directly using the official number on your card or their website. ANZ will never ask you to verify sensitive details like passwords or full card numbers over an unsolicited call.

Should I block 0399553000?

Yes. Block the number 03 9955 3000 on your phone. Reports indicate scammers calling from this number will often call back repeatedly if you don't answer. Blocking prevents the repeated harassment and the temptation to engage with the caller. Blocking does not prevent you from calling ANZ directly if you need to contact them.

What if I already gave information to someone claiming to be ANZ from 03 9955 3000?

Contact your bank immediately and explain what information you provided. If you shared banking details, passwords, or PayID information with a caller from 0399553000, your bank needs to know so they can monitor your account and protect it. Also report the call to Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au) and ACMA (acma.gov.au). If money has been transferred fraudulently, report to police as well.
