The phone number 03 9706 1245 has been reported by several users as a suspicious call, specifically claiming to be from Amazon's Customer Service. A recent user report highlights a concerning interaction where the caller, identifying as "Roy Williams," contacted the individual with a story about an attempted fraudulent charge on their bank account. This situation raises a red flag, indicating that this number is likely associated with a scam.

Analysis of the User Report

According to the user review dated 21 March 2025, the caller had a noticeable Indian accent and provided specific personal information, including the victim's name and an outdated email address. This tactic is commonly used by scammers to establish a sense of trust and authenticity. However, professional and legitimate companies like Amazon typically do not make calls from landline numbers in locations such as Dandenong for customer service issues, making this claim particularly dubious.

This incident falls under the category of a phishing scam, where the goal is to manipulate victims into providing personal or financial information under false pretenses. Callers might claim to resolve a non-existent problem in order to prey on the victim's fear and urgency.

How to Handle Such Calls

  • Do Not Engage: If you receive a call from this number or one with a similar approach, do not engage in conversation. Scammers often use a friendly tone to elicit further personal information.
  • Verify Independently: If you believe there may be a genuine issue, hang up and contact the company directly using a trusted number from their official website.
  • Report the Incident: You can report the number through relevant consumer protection agencies, which helps raise awareness and protect others.

Being vigilant and informed about such scams is crucial in today's digital age. For further information and assistance, consider using Reverseau for a Reverse Phone Lookup in Australia, helping you identify who called and how to respond effectively if you receive a questionable call.

Received a phone call from this number purporting to be from Customer service at Amazon. Caller identified himself as "Roy Williams" in a heavily indian accented voice.

Said that customer service has stopped a $1500 fake charge from my bank account and that I should "thank" customer service. He knew my name and an old email address.

I told him I doubted that Amazon would be calling me from a landline in Dandenong and asked further questions, then he hung up. Definite scam.
