    I received a recorded fake ATO message threatening to put out an arrest warrant against me. I called the number back and when they answered, claiming to be the ATO, it was an Indian man who could barely speak English. I said I did not wish to receive unwarranted scam calls and he swore at me an hung up.

    Received a threatening phone message "This message I want you to get back to us on department division number 03 9112 0949 I repeat 0391120949. Now if we don't hear from you we have to issue an arrest warrant under your name and get you arrested. So call this number as soon as possible".

    This is blackmail and spam and must terrify a number of non english speakers who are not used to Australian laws and do not realise that this is a bogus call.

    This number is a spam. I screened a call from it, and a voice message was left. It was a robotic voice, saying if I don't call, an arrest warrant will be issued.

    Usually when you call them back, they advise that unless you pay (some ridiculous amount) they will go ahead an issue a warrant for your arrest.

    This number is being used by "ATO scammers" today. They seem to have an elaborate setup. They seem to be overseas with people who don't really understand Australia, it's laws or it's culture.

    This is the callerID used to make robo-calls purporting to be from the ATO (Australian Taxation Office).

    If you call this number, the call is answered in a call centre, with operators with Indian accents. When you challenge them regarding their fake calls they either hang-up or become abusive.

    This type of fraudulent behaviour needs to be shut-down ASAP.

    Had the following message left after missing a call from this number:

    "The reason behind this call is that there is a law suit getting filed under your name. The moment you receive this message I want you to get back to us on department division number 03 9112 0949. I repeat 03 9112 0949.

    Now if we don’t hear from you we have to issue arrest warrant under your name and get you arrested. So call this number as soon as possible.".

    Called the number back, the called picked up then after 3 to 4 seconds hung up.

    Just had a missed call and voicemail message left from this number. It was an automated robot voice telling to call this number back or they will go to the police for an arrest warrant. Obviously a scam and potentially the ATO scam again.

    Left voicemail of a recorded voice demanding I calll the number back or a warrant will be issued for my arrest. I hung up at that point and blocked the number so who knows what stupid reason they came up with for trying to get me to call the number. Sick and tired of these scammers being able to access my number.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
