Looks like the REFUND scam.
Refund scams work like this:
Message/email stating amount is being deducted for payment for goods/services, in this case Norton software. Can be PayPal payment, various subscriptions etc.
Call the number to get a refund.
Scammer (may be based overseas) will offer refund but victim must download software to get control of victim's computer. Scammer works it so victim enters refund amount but scammer adds some zeros so it appears they have refunded too much. Scammer tries to con victim into refunding all the 'extra' funds.
Be aware.
There are good youtube videos by anti-scammers which clearly show how the refund & other scams work.
Cheers everyone.
Fraud and spam number using fake Norton charge as bait.
I received an email at my work address, which I use exclusively for professional purposes, containing the same information I saw in the SMS. This raises concerns about its authenticity.
I received an email stating that $549 would be charged to my credit card for a Norton antivirus subscription, which I do not have. This raises red flags for me, and I believe it is likely a scam.
I received a fraudulent email indicating that my "Nortonxnl" Security has been renewed for $549, and urging me to call this number to cancel it. I didn’t call, but I suspect they want credit card details to fix the supposed issue.
Norton security scam via email. Saying auto payment of $599.99 taken from my account, if I want to cancel and get a refund call the above number. Have never had Norton security!! After bank account details.
