Understanding the Scam: 03 9005 8452

The phone number 03 9005 8452 / 0390058452 has gained a notorious reputation among users across Australia as a conduit for scammers impersonating Norton Security. Reports indicate that individuals have received emails from this number, falsely claiming that their Norton subscription requires urgent attention due to an alleged charge of over $400. It is clear from user reports that this is not a legitimate operation but rather a sophisticated scam aimed at tricking unsuspecting individuals into revealing personal and financial information.

Nature of the Scam

Most users who reported interactions with this number described receiving emails that appear legitimate at first glance. The emails typically come from dubious addresses, such as ramiroveino189@gmail.com, announcing automatic charges for a Norton subscription renewal. However, these communications are laden with red flags:

  • Inauthentic Email Addresses: Scammers often employ emails that imitate official channels but contain glaring discrepancies.
  • Unrequested Charges: Legitimate companies like Norton would never send unsolicited emails regarding financial transactions without prior engagement.
  • Urgent Calls to Action: Scammers commonly instill fear through urgency, demanding immediate responses to avoid fictitious financial repercussions.

Why This Number Is a Scam

The reason for classifying 03 9005 8452 / 0390058452 as a scam is backed by several consistent user reports. For example, users noticed that the return email addresses used were shady and complicated, raising suspicions about their legitimacy. Norton Security has stated that they do not send such emails for subscription renewals, advising recipients to delete these messages immediately and further report the incident if contacted.

Additionally, several reports have mentioned that contacting this number results in engaging with an Indian call centre, where operators will inquire for bank details under the pretext of processing a refund for the fictitious charges. Such tactics are common in scams where the aim is to exploit victims' trust for financial gain.

How to Handle Calls from This Number

If you receive a call from 03 9005 8452 / 0390058452, it is strongly advised to:

  • Do NOT Engage: Avoid sharing any personal or financial information.
  • Report the Call: If prompted, report the call to Scamwatch or the Federal Police.
  • Verify Independently: If you're unsure about a communication allegedly from Norton, contact them through their official website or customer support lines.

Phone no 9005 8452 was in the body of an email dated 4/8/2023 advising subscription renewal of $459.99 for complete network security. If I have any questions or for urgent support contact this number. A scam!

Got an email containing this number, claimed they are Complete Network Security, how the email address it came in on was one that was used only within industries that had major breaches. One of those being the private health insurer Medibank here in Australia.

Do NOT believe anything that is said in there, report it as a scam to scamwatch.

I got the same email claiming to be from Norton. It’s a scam because the return email address was suspicious, and Norton doesn’t send renewal notices like this. I contacted Norton directly, and they advised me to delete the email and reach out to NortonLifeLock for further assistance.

Email from Norton Security saying to contact this number to activate my subscription for $447, really smart coming from a ramiroveino189@gmail. Com - of course its a scam but I wanted to record this on reverseau. Com in case any one wants to query it.

I received an email claiming that Norton’s automatic subscription charged me $446.99. The email came from a suspicious address, and if you call the number, it's likely you're directed to an Indian call center posing as Norton Software. They typically apologize and then ask for your bank details to refund the fraudulent charge. There are YouTube videos showing ethical hackers catching these scammers in action.
