Holly Molly! I just crapped my pants when I got the message. Fortunately I'm hopeless at writing down numbers so I Google it and found out it was a scam. I Called him back and just had a bit of fun with him. A-holes!!!!
ATO scam. Says that you have a debt and they are issuing an immediate "arrest warrant" because you've tried to defraud the ATO. I called the number, the guy picking up said he was from the Australian Taxation Office. I indicated that I didn't think it was genuinely the ATO, and that I'd read out my mobile number and he could tell me my TFN, and I would determine whether I genuinely thought he was from the ATO. He hung up on me lol.
I'm a lawyer. I've dealt with the ATO for many clients. ATO are very stringent in how they contact you, how they issue proceedings against taxpayers. They certainly don't leave voicemail messages saying you're going to be prosecuted with an immediate arrest warrant.
Just received a phone call from this number and have been scammed. I cant believe this has happened before and goverment Authorities have not been able to track these people / syndicate and jail these motherf@#ckers.
