Receiving calls from 03 8372 4691? This number is linked to suspicious inquiries claiming to be affiliated with energy discounts. Learn essential tips to deal with such calls effectively.

Understanding 03 8372 4691: A Suspicious Caller

If you’ve recently received a call from 03 8372 4691 / 0383724691, you’re not alone. Many Australians have reported receiving calls from this number, often identifying themselves as representatives from Compare, claiming to be reaching out on behalf of energy companies like Energy Australia and AGL. However, the nature of these calls raises several red flags.

What Are Users Reporting?

According to user reports, the callers often ask if individuals are aware of new electricity discounts, coyly suggesting they can secure a 15% discount off their current provider's rates. However, when users inquire for more information, the conversations typically escalate with an insistence to speak to a supervisor. This tactic can be disconcerting, especially when the follow-up calls persist despite the individual’s attempts to disengage.

Why You Should Be Wary

The classification of this number as suspicious stems from several key factors:

  • Third-party Involvement: Legitimate inquiries about discounts from your energy provider are typically handled through official correspondence, not unsolicited phone calls from third parties.
  • Persistent Follow-up: Users have reported that once they express disinterest, the calls often do not cease, which is not standard practice for reputable companies who respect customer boundaries.
  • Lack of Verification: The inability to verify the identity of the caller increases suspicion. Legitimate companies will not hesitate to provide details about their business and how they obtained your information.

How to Handle Suspicious Calls

If you find yourself on the receiving end of a call from 03 8372 4691 / 0383724691, or any similar suspicious number, here are some recommended steps:

  • Do Not Engage: If the call feels odd or unsolicited, it’s best not to engage. Politely decline to provide any personal information.
  • Block the Number: To avoid future disturbances, consider blocking the number on your device.
  • Report the Call: You may want to report the incident to the relevant authorities or your local consumer protection agency for fraudulent behaviour.
  • Stay Informed: Use services like Reverseau for a Reverse Phone Lookup in Australia to identify and gain insights about unfamiliar numbers.

In conclusion, while it’s enticing to hear about potential discounts, always ensure your correspondence regarding such matters comes from trusted sources. Being vigilant can save you from falling prey to questionable practices. Stay safe and knowledgeable!

Caller reports they are from Compare - on behalf of your electricity company (Energy Australia / AGL etc). Asking if you are aware of the electricity discounts that have been announced. As they can help you get 15% off with your current provider. When I asked for more information about who they were, I got transferred to a supervisor, who then continues to call you. Blocked number. I would expect if in fact my energy provider could offer me a discounted rate, I would be advised by mail and it would happen automatically - they would not be calling me, especially not a third party.
