Impersonation and Robocall Reports for 03 7053 1550

Five contributors have flagged calls from 03 7053 1550 (also written as 0370531550) with a consistent pattern of impersonation tactics. The most serious reports involve robocalls claiming to represent Commonwealth Bank with urgent fraud alerts, and callers posing as Telstra internet support personnel requesting personal information and assistance with account resets. Two additional reports describe uncertainty about the caller's identity, while another contributor received a solar panel sales pitch.

The impersonation tactic is particularly sophisticated in the Telstra-related report. The caller claimed that Telstra provides underlying internet services to all Australian providers including Optus and TPG, a false statement designed to build credibility. When the contributor challenged the caller by asking them to identify their own internet provider, the caller could not answer, revealing the deception. The caller's response upon being accused of scamming was aggressive and abusive, which aligns with known impersonation scam behaviour when targets become suspicious.

What Callers from 03 7053 1550 Claim

One contributor received a robocall from 0370531550 claiming to be from Commonwealth Bank regarding a fraudulent $200 debit charge. The urgency tactic was evident - the automated message presented the situation as requiring immediate action, though the contributor verified with their bank and found no such transaction.

A second impersonation call involved the caller claiming to represent Telstra internet support, suggesting the contributor was using public internet instead of private internet and offering to help reset their connection. The contributor did not have a Telstra internet service at all. When questioned further, the caller made the implausible claim that Telstra provides backbone internet services to competing providers, then became defensive and hostile when confronted about the scam.

Solar panel and battery inquiries formed another thread, with the contributor reporting receiving multiple calls asking about solar panel ownership. This pattern suggests 03 7053 1550 may be used for multiple campaigns or shared among different calling operations.

Report Patterns and Timing

The reports span from January 2025 to March 2026, showing sustained activity from this number. One call was received at 1:59 PM on a Friday, and at least one contributor received multiple calls. Two reports involved answered calls where the contributor could engage with the caller, one was a robocall that hung up after the initial claim, and one was a missed call with no voicemail.

The Victorian-based local service number allocation (NetSIP Pty Ltd provider) does not guarantee legitimacy, as impersonation scammers frequently spoof local numbers to appear trustworthy. Contributors are advised to be especially cautious of calls claiming to be from major financial institutions or internet service providers, as these remain prime targets for impersonation scams.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 03 7053 1550 actually from Commonwealth Bank?

No. A contributor who received a call from 03 7053 1550 claiming to be Commonwealth Bank investigated independently and confirmed there was no legitimate transaction. Commonwealth Bank will never call you with urgent fraud alerts asking you to take immediate action or provide account details. If you receive such a call from 0370531550, hang up and call Commonwealth Bank directly using the number on your official bank statement or card.

Did the caller from 0370531550 really represent Telstra?

No. One contributor received a call from 03 7053 1550 claiming to be Telstra internet support, but the caller made false claims about Telstra providing internet services to competing providers. When challenged to identify the contributor's actual internet provider, the caller could not answer, proving the impersonation. Telstra will not cold-call you claiming you are using public internet or asking you to reset your connection without you initiating contact first.

Why does 03 7053 1550 appear to be a real Victorian number?

The number 0370531550 is allocated as a local service through NetSIP Pty Ltd in Victoria, but this does not guarantee legitimacy. Modern scammers use technology to spoof or temporarily register real-looking local numbers to appear trustworthy. Just because 03 7053 1550 displays as a local Victorian number does not mean it is calling on behalf of any legitimate organisation. Always verify by calling the organisation back independently.

What should I do if 03 7053 1550 calls claiming to be from my internet provider?

Hang up immediately and do not provide any information. Do not allow the caller to 'help' you reset anything. Call your actual internet provider directly using the number on your bill to verify if they contacted you. Legitimate internet providers rarely cold-call customers claiming they are using the wrong type of internet or offering unsolicited technical support. If you received such a call from 0370531550, report it to ACMA and your provider.

What does the robocall from 0370531550 sound like?

One contributor reported receiving a robocall from 03 7053 1550 claiming to be Commonwealth Bank with an urgent message about a fraudulent $200 debit. The call was automated (robocall) and hung up after the initial claim. Do not engage with robocalls from 0370531550 - do not press buttons, do not speak, and do not return the call. Simply hang up and block the number.

I received multiple calls from 03 7053 1550 about solar panels - is this a scam?

One contributor reported receiving multiple calls from 03 7053 1550 asking about solar panels and batteries, which is generally classified as unsolicited marketing (spam) rather than outright fraud. However, given that this same number has been used for impersonation scams claiming to be Commonwealth Bank and Telstra, it is safest to block 0370531550 entirely and not engage with any calls from this number.
