    Started calling me - shows as a Tasmanian caller 03 6124 2720 - when answered call (which I don't usually pick up unknown numbers- but was waiting for another call and thought that was them!) it is an automated message advising that its eBay and there's been an order placed for $200+ dollars.. At this point I just hung up, number has called me twice now (2nd time I did not answer at all).

    Not sure why I picked this up because it was obviously spam. I think I've been watching too much Jim Browning on youtube and I was like oooh mebbe it will be scammers! Recorded voice saying an eBay purchase had been made using my details and $260 was going to be debited from my account. Here's some eBay info about how the scams usually go. [link] safe everyone!

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
