The Nature of the Scam

Reviews indicate that when callers answer, they are greeted by a pre-recorded message. This tactic is commonly employed by scammers aiming to obtain sensitive personal information.

Identifying Scam Calls

  • Automated Voice: A common feature of scam calls is the use of robotic voices rather than speaking directly to an operator.
  • Pressure to Act: Scammers often create a sense of urgency, pushing you to provide personal details immediately.
  • Suspicious Alerts: Messages referencing legal actions or account freezes that you haven’t previously been warned about should always be taken with caution.

Phone identified number as Ballarat area number. Answered, automated message threatening a legal case against me and suspicious activity in bank accounts and freezing of TFN or something along those lines. Held the line after it asked me to press one which would’ve no doubt put me in contact in a real person trying to scam my details from me, held for a few more moments (didn’t press one) and call is discontinued. Scumbags.
