User Reports and Analysis

Multiple users have shared their experiences regarding missed calls from 03 4002 1018 / 0340021018, followed by attempts to call back the number only to be greeted by pre-recorded messages in a foreign language, primarily Chinese. The consistent pattern among reports points toward a potentially structured scam, as highlighted in the following key areas:

  • Recording Manipulation: Users have reported being asked questions that require a simple affirmative answer, usually 'yes'. This tactic raises eyebrows as it is often a methodology used by scammers to obtain verbal consent that can be misused later.
  • Switching Locations: Some reports indicate that the caller identities themselves as being part of a police department from a different state — a tactic that adds a layer of authenticity that scammers often employ to lower the guard of their targets.
  • Repeating Calls: Many users are experiencing repetitive calls from this number within short intervals, injecting undue stress and suspicion into their day-to-day lives. Such persistent calls could indicate a deliberate campaign designed to confuse and engage unsuspecting individuals.

Classification and Recommendations

Based on these pieces of evidence, it's reasonable to classify 03 4002 1018 / 0340021018 as a scam number attempting to exploit user vulnerability through high-pressure tactics and sophisticated recording strategies. If you receive a call from this number:

  • Do Not Engage: Avoid answering calls from unknown numbers, especially those which do not leave messages.
  • Block the Number: If you recognise 03 4002 1018 / 0340021018 on your caller ID, blocking the number is advisable.
  • Report the Call: Help others by reporting any suspicious numbers to action fraud authorities and contact services that provide Reverse Phone Lookup Australia functionality, such as Reverseau.

They asked me if I was (and used my correct surname). Unfortunately I said Yes and they hung up. I called back and got a Chinese message. I suspect they are looking to record the word Yes so they can bind you to a contract for something you do not want. Will wait and see.

Keep getting calls from this number within 2 mins - I hung up and no message left, the third time I answered the phone and I can hear its started recording - don't speak first you attempt to answer the unknown numbers. I have a feeling they might want to copy/ use AI to learn your voice and generate voice mails/ to scam.

Scam, didn't pick this one, and 0894000888, saying my number was reported.

A phone number from VIC claiming they are calling from "joondalup police station" which is in WA. The person speaks in english with a strong indian accent and unable to pronounce my name which is a very common english name. The person is also unable to pronounce the Joondlup. When spelling Joondalup she is obviously reading it out from a paper. Looks like a scam call to me.

Didn't answer and no message left. Called back and got the recorded Chinese message.

This number called me and was flagged as spam. They did not leave a voicemail, and since it’s unfamiliar to me, I have blocked the number.
