Vodafone Impersonation Reports for 02 9099 3421
Two contributors have reported calls from 02 9099 3421 (also written as 0290993421) involving callers impersonating Vodafone representatives. The pattern is concerning because both callers demonstrated knowledge of the recipients' phone numbers but appear to have sourced this information through unauthorised means rather than legitimate Vodafone channels.
One contributor traced the source back to a domain called girmable.com, suspecting the contact details were scraped from a website or obtained through a data breach. The Optus data breach is specifically mentioned as a possible source. The fact that 0290993421 has not been linked to a business account for over 20 years suggests this is a spoofed or harvested number being misused for fraudulent contact attempts.
What Callers from 02 9099 3421 Claim
Callers identifying themselves as Vodafone representatives contact recipients claiming to have legitimate contact information. When questioned about how they obtained the number, one caller initially claimed the number was provided by Vodafone, then contradicted themselves and admitted it came via girmable.com instead.
The impersonation attempt includes establishing false credibility by referencing Vodafone as the source. Contributors report that callers from 0290993421 attempt to extract personal information during the call, creating a two-stage scam: first gaining trust through impersonation, then requesting sensitive details.
Data Source Concerns
A contributor investigating 02 9099 3421 discovered the caller's inconsistent story about data sourcing, which led them to contact the domain registrant of girmable.com to investigate the potential data leak. The timing and specificity of how callers from 0290993421 obtained numbers strongly suggests harvested or breached data rather than legitimate business records.
One report notes that the Optus data breach is a likely candidate, given that it exposed millions of Australian phone numbers. The contributor emphasises that this type of unsolicited contact using unauthorised data violates telecommunications regulations, as individuals did not explicitly consent to being contacted by this number.
The use of what appears to be a VoIP line (possibly Philippines-based, according to one report) combined with harvested data is a common tactic used by information harvesting operations impersonating major Australian telcos.

What Our Users Reviewed
Sorry, the typo.. firmable. Com I mistyped it, and the number they have is likely part of a data breach, possibly the Optus data breach.
Caller claimed to be from Vodafone, then advised the number was provided to her from vodafone, eventually she advised the number was provided via girmable. Com I have raised an email with their domain contact to see if I can find out where the data leak is from as the number I have has not been linked to a business account for 20+ years and it is possible it was scraped from a website so this is illegal to contact someone from information not given to them by the user with explicit permission to contact them.
Possibly a voip line from Philippines like most information harvesters call from. Be aware and be warned, do not provide your name when answering a call.

WRITE A REVIEWFrequently Asked Questions
Should I be concerned if 02 9099 3421 already knows my phone number?
Yes. Contributors investigating 0290993421 found that callers had sourced numbers from unauthorised data sources rather than legitimate Vodafone records. Callers knowing your number does not mean they are legitimate - it indicates harvested or breached data. Hang up immediately and do not confirm any personal details.
What should I do if a caller from 0290993421 asks for my name?
Do not provide it. One contributor specifically warned not to provide your name when answering calls from 02 9099 3421, as this information can be used for further scams or sold on to other fraudsters. Even saying your name confirms the number belongs to an active person.
Why do callers from 02 9099 3421 claim to be from Vodafone?
Impersonating major Australian telcos like Vodafone gives callers false credibility and makes recipients more likely to comply with requests for information. A caller from 0290993421 who claimed Vodafone as the source was attempting to bypass natural suspicion before requesting personal details.
Could my data have been leaked if 02 9099 3421 called me?
Possibly. Contributors tracking 0290993421 suspect the Optus data breach as a likely source, though the number could have been scraped from websites or obtained through other unauthorised means. If you received an unsolicited call claiming to be from Vodafone, your contact details may have been compromised.
Is 0290993421 a real Vodafone number?
No. The allocation shows 02 9099 3421 is registered to Symbio Networks, not Vodafone. Callers impersonating Vodafone are spoofing or misusing this number. Always contact Vodafone directly using a number from their official website or your bill, never by calling back the number that called you.
What should I do if I already provided information to a caller from 02 9099 3421?
Monitor your accounts closely for unauthorised activity. If you shared financial or sensitive details with 0290993421, contact your service provider and bank immediately. Report the call to ACMA (acma.gov.au) and Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au) and consider changing passwords for critical accounts. Watch for follow-up scam attempts.
