Got one today here in Hervey Bay, asking to contact a Margaret Stewart about a claim. Almost certainly a scam, as it was addressed to 'Occupant of the residence'.

The return address (if undeliverable) is GPO Box 9898 in your capital city, which seems to be a generic one used by many groups.

A number of unsigned letters have appeared at our house quoting this number. Many people have claimed they received the same letters asking for debts to be repaid. Our house is in Melbourne and yet this is a Sydney number.

Yep I've got the letter too. I called and left a message with some guy. Said on the voicemail that it was some debt collector service.

When I phone the number they won't tell me what company they are from. That's sure sign that it's not legitimate.

I received this letter today. I'm sure it's a scam but I would like to know what sort. I called the number but no answer.

It is quite scary but.

Same thing here, just got that in my mailbox.

No name, just addressed to the 'occupant of the residence'.

I received the letter twice also from Margret Stewart. It was addressed to the house and not an individual. I also have several other letters addressed to previous tenants that use the same envelope type, print and return address. By holding them up to the light I can see that solicitor is trying to collect debt on these people. Based on that I'm not interested in claiming someone else's debt. I could be wrong but that's all I can gather.

B

I have had the same letter sent twice to my business address, called the number once but had no answer.

Any ideas as to who/what it is?

Some sort of scam I bet.

Have got a second letter addressed to the occupant of the residence with no information as to who sent the letter ie: company name. Also asks to quote a claim number 361751 and sent by Mary Stewart. Envelope is same as centerlink so it looks so official. But I think its a scam? Has any one rung the number and got further with the claim number?

D
Dawes

I got the same letter saying from Margret Stewart.

J

I've been getting the same letter too. Sounds suss to me.

Received a letter in the post asking to call this number and quote a claim number. The letter did not identify the sender. When the number was called, they would not identify themselves until the claim number was quoted.
