What Our Users Reviewed
This is a tax scam attempt that I recognized from 2023. The caller had a subcontinental accent, indicating it’s likely to be a fraudulent operation.
Same or similar to all the others. Obviously a scam wanting you to be stupid enough to give them bank and personal details I guess. As others have said, no reference to name of person implicated etc..
BEWARE TOTAL SCAM BY VERY PROFESSIONAL SOUNDING MALE VOICE.
Basically the same as all the other comments. He rang on the 18th July 2016 and the next day the 19th and left messages. On the 18th he wanted me to ring this number 02 8317 3355 and on the 19th wanted me to ring 02 8599 6163 (The name he stated to contact was Jason McGuire... Not sure). I'm going to go to a public phone and ring him back and give him bogus bank account details and / or credit card details and let him see if he can F$%#K over the banks. With all this ASIO stuff and terrorism I think they will be able to trace and track the F%$#&*rs.
We also had 3 voicemail messages left on our landline from this number today. A voice with an accent (American mixed with something else) claims to be from the ATO and about to commence proceedings against me (they don't have our names of course) for tax avoidance in the past. And they need me to call them back on this number before they put the case into the courthouse. The first and third messages were absolutely identical in voice and wording (obviously a recording), the middle message was a different voice and stronger accent and different call back number.
Don't know what their scam is, not going to bother ringing to find out.
I've had two calls like this in the past couple of hours. The other number was 02 8317 3355. Slightly different accent but very similar message. How do we stop this?
Major tax scam!
Yes, got a call on that number from someone saying they are from the ATO. Foreign accent, (perhaps Indian, not sure, male) Re: tax invasion, legal proceeding are going to be taken against me. They need to know more about it and I should ring 02 etc.
A foreign voice announces he is from the Australian Tax Office and will take legal action for tax evasion. This is obviously a scam as he did not ask for me by name and did not leave a reference number to quote if I was (stupid enough) to ring back. On such a matter, the ATO would communicate by letter to you or your tax agent; it would never phone.
