How the Scam Operates

According to user reports, the callers from this number claim to be verifying a $470 transaction to an overseas bank account. Scam. Said was from the Commonwealth bank and was ringing me to confirm that I had made a $470 transaction to an overseas account. I don't have a Commonwealth Bank account. He was most confused when I said 'Yes, I made that transaction' and asked me to confirm again. When I yet again very enthusiastically confirmed I had made the transaction he said 'umm' and then hung up. Obviously I didn't answer as per the script.....

A caller claimed to be from the Commonwealth Bank, attempting to confirm a $470 transaction that supposedly originated from my account to an overseas bank. Although I affirmed that I made the transaction, the caller seemed confused and repeated the question. After my second confirmation, he hesitated and hung up. I do not even have an account with Commonwealth Bank.
