Solar Panel Scam Reports for 02 8526 2956
One contributor has reported a scam call from 02 8526 2956 (also written as 0285262956) involving a high-pressure pitch about solar panel installation and government rebates. The caller read from a script claiming to have identified an ideal solar solution and promised immediate savings through rebates. The contributor, who rents in a flat and cannot install solar panels, was not asked for their name but received the full scripted pitch regardless, suggesting this is a mass-targeted campaign.
The call came through Symbio Networks, an NSW-based service provider. According to the contributor, Symbio Networks and Netzip have become preferred infrastructure providers for scam operations, with every call from these providers turning out to be attempted fraud. The contributor noted the caller had an Indian accent and a busy call centre environment was audible in the background, consistent with offshore scam operation patterns.
What Callers from 02 8526 2956 Say
The contributor who received the call from 02 8526 2956 reported the caller read a standardised script about solar panel installation and available rebates. The pitch was generic and non-personalised, suggesting it was delivered to multiple recipients without checking eligibility or property type. The claim that "savings will begin right away" is designed to create urgency and bypass rational consideration.
The script did not request the recipient's name, indicating the scammers were conducting broad outreach rather than targeting specific individuals. However, the fact that 0285262956 reached this contributor suggests they have obtained contact lists, possibly through data breaches or purchased databases. The combination of a non-personalised script and offshore call centre operation indicates this is an organised scam network rather than a one-off fraudster.
Call Patterns and Timing
The call to the contributor came during lunch or dinnertime for the NSW area code (02), a classic pattern for scam operations seeking to reach people when they are more likely to answer and less focused. The contributor noted this timing aligns with years of similar scam calls they have received. The use of a local NSW landline number (02 area code) to appear legitimate while actually being routed through offshore infrastructure is a common spoofing tactic.

What Our Users Reviewed
Phone marked this number as a known spam or scam caller. Fits the pattern of scam calls I've been getting for years - random interstate landline number, at lunch or dinnertime for the area code it's pretending to be from. It's also from Symbio networks who are the preferred Scam call provider currently, along with Netzip. All my scam calls are from these providers; no call from Symbio or Netzip I've ever had has NOT been attempted fraud. Caller had an Indian accent and I could hear a busy call centre in the background. Read me a script about "we've identified the ideal solution for your solar panel installation and rebates - your savings will begin right away!" which is interesting, because I rent in a block of flats - I won't be installing any solar here! The guy just starts reading this script at you. In this case they didn't ask for me by name at least. Probably not actually spoofed as Symbio will always be there for the scammers, providing plenty of new phone numbers and comprehensive support - for scammers.

WRITE A REVIEWFrequently Asked Questions
Is 02 8526 2956 a real solar company?
No. The contributor who received a call from 02 8526 2956 (0285262956) confirmed this is a scam operation, not a legitimate solar company. Real solar installers do not conduct unsolicited cold calls with generic scripts, and legitimate government solar rebates are not promoted this way. Scammers use official-sounding scripts to appear credible.
Why did they call me about solar panels when I rent?
Scammers calling from 02 8526 2956 don't verify your property ownership or eligibility before calling. They use purchased contact lists and call as many people as possible with the same generic script, hoping some will be homeowners interested in solar. This shotgun approach is far more cost-effective for them than targeted outreach.
What happens if I call 0285262956 back?
Do not call 0285262956 back. The number may not connect to the scammers at all - it could be spoofed or invalid. Calling back risks connecting to an innocent third party whose number was hijacked, or triggering additional scam contacts if the number is active. Hang up and block instead.
Are Symbio Networks and Netzip legitimate companies?
Symbio Networks and Netzip are real telecommunications infrastructure providers, but according to the contributor, their phone number ranges are heavily exploited by scammers. Scammers abuse these providers' allocated number blocks to launch campaigns. The provider is not directly responsible for the scam, but these particular number ranges have become notorious for fraud.
Can I get government solar rebates without installing solar panels?
No. Government solar rebates (like the Small-scale Technology Certificates scheme) require you to own a property and have solar panels physically installed. If a caller from 02 8526 2956 or any number claims they can provide rebates without installation, it's a scam. Legitimate rebates are only available to eligible property owners.
How do scammers know my phone number?
Scammers obtain phone numbers through data breaches, purchased contact lists, or random number generation. The contributor noted that calls from 02 8526 2956 don't ask for names, indicating they are using generic contact lists rather than personally targeted information. Your number may have been sold or leaked multiple times.
