Reports Indicating a Common Pattern
Analysis of user feedback reveals a concerning trend. On 23 March 2023, a caller introduced themselves as being from eBay, raising alarms over a supposed attempt to purchase gift cards from the target's account. The caller's hesitance and lack of typical concluding conversation elements left the recipient suspicious, hinting it might be a scam designed to extract sensitive information.
Further reviews from 6 April 2023 and 11 April 2023 corroborate this initial suspicion. Several users described receiving calls from individuals claiming to represent large telecommunications companies like Optus and Telstra. These callers attempted to convince the receivers that their internet accounts had been hacked, demanding immediate action on vague claims and insisting that they could disclose personal information. The lack of clarity regarding the recipients' actual service providers only deepened the scepticism.

Call received on 6.04.2023 at 2.44 pm (AEST) rom 0285260513 from an Indian sounding male purporting to be from Optus Technical Department claiming over the last couple of weeks my internet account had been hacked and accessed externally.
When explained to him what account was he referring to as we were not Optus customers he could only say 'your internet'. When asked to clarify his identity or perhaps email the issue as I did not believe or trust him, he continued to talk over me and attempt to persuade me that there was a critical error with my internet needing prompt action.
The male would not provide further details or how he got my number but claimed I needed to access my computer home screen where he could prove he knew my IP address. He also said I was a just a normal user therefore wouldn't understand.
He was promptly cancelled and blocked.
Called my mobile saying they were from eBay and someone had tried to purchase a $500 gift card from my account. He wasn’t very confident and didn’t say goodbye which I thought was strange and now seems like it was a scammer.
