I've had several messages from 0284173032 on different phone numbers all much the same mentioning the tax office or other organization, quoting a case number and then one of a number of scare tactics like warrant for arrest, court case etc. All trying to scare the recipient into calling back.

I assume if you did call back there would be an attempt to extract information to enable some scam or hack depending on how gullible the person callin back is. This seems to be confirmed by other contributors who have called back. BEST TO SIMPLY IGNORE.

Yes,, have just had an obvious scam call from a man with an Indian accent who called himself Chris Matthews from the ATO requesting my TFN. His reasons for this he tells me,, I have been investigated for tax avoidance and tax fraud. He even asked me if I had a Lawyer present. People need to be aware of this sort person calling or leaving recordings on your phone.

Missed a call from this number today. When I rang back they had a strong Indian accent. He said to me that he was a senior taxation office and that I had to confirm my personal details to him. Obviously I didn't, especially when I could hear all of the other Indians in the call centre. They called me back again. I ignored the call. Might answer next time and have some fun.
