I got a similar call yesterday, from the ATO supposedly, saying I should call back on 02 8317 3331 urgently or I would be arrested for tax fraud! It sounded very odd because it was a woman's voice in a funny accent. Not your typical ATO scare campaign?
I just received a missed call and follow up text saying my attorney needed to get in touch. Obviously won't be calling back. Thanks for all the comments.

I work for an accountant and had yet another client call this morning distressed from a phone call form this number - she stated exactly what everyone else has posted, same contact names, badge numbers etc..... Where do these people get off!!! SCAMMERS, should be ashamed of themselves.
Message received on my answering machine yesterday from Mark Brown advising me that the ATO was investigating me and that I should call back on 0283173327 and speak to either Jason Matthews or Officer Jennifer. Thank you to others for posting info regarding these bogus calls, it is so helpful. This site is wonderful.
There using two numbers 0283171152 as well same message I spoke to ato said its a scam I rang them back and started asking questions they got abusive and hung up they've rung 4times in last two days and hang up if I answer call these creeps need to be shut down.
I just received a messsage on answering machine from this same number with the person saying exactly the same things as everyone else has posted here.
I rang back but my phone wasn't working well and the person said ATO and kept asking Hello. As they couldn't hear me I hung up. Rang back straight away and the person then put on a different voice and said started swearing if I kept ringing back. Obviously this is a SCAM.
We had a missed call from some guy who didn’t say his name but said he was a Senior Investigations Officer (#469284) with the ATO and to call back urgently regarding a serious matter. If we didn’t there would be severe penalties/action blah blah blah.
Just had a call from the 'ATO' to ring this number at work, searched it on Google and found this page, thanks guys :-).
My mum got a call from this number. I rang back and said I work in law enforcement and they hung up.
My mum had a message on her answering machine today from an Asian guy claiming to be from the ATO. He said it was a serious matter regarding her being a senior or something. It sounded extremely suss so we searched the number he left and found this site!

Some one called Mark Brown (with a strong Indian accent) rang and said they had a case number and were from the police department and that they wanted me to ring them about a serious matter and that if I don't then the ATO will take further action.
I rang the number and asked them who they were and he said Sydney Police. I told him I had rung the ATO and that they were a scam. He then told me to go back to my own country - being Australia and began swearing. I kept laughing at him and he hung up.

My mum (63) received a call from this number 28/10/2015. The gentleman was Asian and left a message on her answering machine claiming to be from the ATO, he said she needed to call back asap as she may be arrested and charged with a serious criminal offence. I called back and told him to stop harassing her (I didn't swear or get angry but he was extremely defensive and told me to f off and that I was an effing a@**hole and hung up on me. Called ATO they advised it is a scam!
Got a call from this number claiming ATO and that I had commintted a crime.
When I asked about the TFN he started abusing me.
Immediate action should be taken against these culprits.
My elderly mother also received one of these calls 6 days ago. I have attempted to call this number numerous times but mostly gives engaged signal or does not answer. Person claimed to be a Jason Matthews, Senior Investigation Officer No. 469284.
We received a similar message. Didn't catch the name, but they said they were Senior Investigations Officer, couldn't discuss the details on the phone and it was in regards to a serious case and ATO would be forced to take measures. I rang back twice and they hung up - definite scam. I am going to report to Police and ATO.

Very dubious when I called the this number - very quiet answer, much background noise and hung up quickly.
Received a call from this number saying we were being investigated for serious tax fraud for a sum of over $8000.00. They had tried to issue summons, papers we being lodged in court today and police were on their way with a warrant for arrest... He hoped we had a good criminal lawyer! I told him to expect a call from our lawyer. Very persistent, called back many times. This was all aimed at my 86 yo mother in aged care, fortunately I was there at the time to intervene. Said his name was Daniel Smith from the ATO.
Just got a call from this number claiming to be Jason from the Australian Taxation Office fraud investigation branch. Said it was about a serious criminal matter.
I said "I doubt that!" and said if it was I don't think the first I would here of it was some stranger in a telephone call!
Definite Scam - beware!
We just received a Message on our answering machine claiming there to be a serious tax issue that need's Urgent attention and that we should call them back on 0283173327 or further action will be taken. The caller claimed to be an officer from "The Department of Australian Tax Office" and spoke with a Indian/American accent, he had poor English skills that leads me to believe he certainly holds no position with the ATO.
I would say this is a Scam and you should report this number to the ATO and Do Not under any circumstance call the provided number as the ATO does not make calls of this nature.

This was an email we received today on our office voice mail. I have attempted to call the number back twice and it has rang out both times. I have since called and reported it to the ATO.
An automated message came through over the phone twice containing the following:
Investigation and Audit Australian Taxation Office.
Officer Mark Brown Badge number: 46284.
Saying that there is an urgent matter that needs to be discussed or the ATO will be forced to take action.
And to call back and speak with either Officer Jason or Jennifer on 0283173327.
