    This number left a voicemail saying that warrants were about to be issued for my arrest and then when I called back they said they were the Australian Tax Office! Then asked me for information to verify my identity and then hung up when I refused! Scary!

    I've received an electronic voice message from this number asking to call back, or otherwise a warrant for being arrested will be issued. I believe this is a scam. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Do not answer calls from 02 8005 1050. The operator claims to be from ATO. He was very hard to understand and spoke rather quickly. When told I him I would call ATO to verify the number and that I would call them back if it was a legitimate number, they hung up immediately. I called the ATO and they confirmed it was not a number affiliated with them.

    This number is a scam saying that an arrest warrant will be put on you if you ignore the call. It’s an American voice.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
