Understanding the Scam Behind 02 8003 7485
The phone number 02 8003 7485 / 0280037485 has recently come under scrutiny as reports from multiple users have identified it as a phishing scam operating under the guise of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA). This type of scam often seeks to compromise sensitive personal information through deceptive messaging tactics.
Common Characteristics of the Scam
- Users have reported receiving text messages appearing to be from CBA, claiming there have been unauthorized logins or actions unaccounted for on their accounts.
- The messages often instruct recipients to call the number in question, supposedly to verify information or to respond to urgent prompts related to their banking service.
- One common technique appears to involve threatening messages stating a new card is being issued and prompting the recipient to call if they did not make such a request.
Why This Number is Classified as a Scam
Based on multiple reports, it’s clear that 02 8003 7485 / 0280037485 is not affiliated with the Commonwealth Bank and is instead used by fraudsters aiming to exploit unsuspecting individuals. Several clues give away its fraudulent nature:
- The texts employ urgency, a common strategy in scams, to pressure recipients into acting without verifying the identity of the sender.
- Users reported confirming directly with CBA, only to find out that these messages were indeed fraudulent.
- Variations in texts, including different reasons for contacting, suggest a disconnect in authentic messaging from CBA, which typically wouldn’t approach customers in this manner.
What You Should Do If You Receive a Call or Message From This Number
If you encounter communications from 02 8003 7485 / 0280037485, it’s critical to remain cautious. Here are steps you can take:
