Recognising 02 8003 6994: A Scam Identification Guide
In the landscape of phone communications, few things are more unsettling than receiving a call that leaves you feeling uneasy or concerned about your personal information. One such number that has raised considerable alarms among Australian users is 02 8003 6994. Based on user reports, this number is identified as part of a cunning scam targeting individuals with fabricated accident claims.
The Tactics Employed
Individuals who have reported interactions with this number describe a common theme: a caller claiming to be from the Road Transport Authority (RTA) who suggests that the recipient has been involved in an accident. While their accent, often noted as Indian, may seem normal, the content of the calls is anything but.
- Many callers have stated that the individual insists on knowing if they remember an accident that supposedly took place within the last year.
- When confronted or questioned, the caller often resorts to vague details and even resorts to swearing when challenged, which further highlights the deceptive nature of the call.
- Crucially, users are advised to refrain from saying "yes" during these conversations, as there are reports indicating that scammers may misuse such confirmations for illegitimate purposes.
Why You Should Be Concerned
This form of manipulation falls into the category of a scam known as "accident compensation fraud." The perpetrators aim to exploit individuals by convincing them that they are entitled to compensation, thereby attempting to extract personal information or even consent for financial transactions.
It’s vital to understand that no legitimate authority will reach out in such a manner, promoting advances from unestablished contacts regarding accidents that never happened.

What Our Users Reviewed
Had a call from this number (02) 8003 6994. Man with Indian accent try to see if I would say "yes" by asking my name. I asked him who he is and he said he's from RTA and that he was calling about a minor accident. I said what accident and when did this happen? He just made a random day and time then I asked him to give me more details then he just started talking rubbish and swearing so I hanged up the phone. He called again but I've blocked it.
So my advice is never to say "yes" to any call because I was informed also from my friend these scammers can use your voice over the phone use your identity.
Caller (sounded Indian) said he was from RTA and I had an accident last year and was entitled to compensation. I have not had a a car accident for over 10 years.
SCAM ALERT!! Caller is "from" Road transport... Blah blah. Insists I had a car accident over the last year and "DO I REMEMBER IT?" After my few "NO's" he said "No problem Mam". Was convincing and took his chance. His number: 02 8003 6994. Sounded like a decent Indian guy. I have read elsewhere not to say YES to these calls or somehow they clean up your account on your behalf.
