The Scam Details

Most users described the voices as British or with strong Indian accents, suggesting that the callers may not be operating from Australia. Such characteristics point to orchestrated scam operations rather than legitimate outreach.
How to Handle Calls from This Number
If you receive a call from 02 8003 3912 or a similar number claiming to be from the ATO, it is crucial to remember the following:
- Do not engage: Hang up immediately. Legitimate government agencies will not use aggressive tactics or threaten you with arrest over the phone.
- Protect your information: Never provide personal details, payment information, or any identifiers over the phone without verifying the caller's identity.
- Verify directly: If you're uncertain about your tax status or receive alarming messages, directly contact the ATO through their official channels, not the number provided on the suspicious call.
- Report the scam: Report any scam calls to authorities, such as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) or the ATO.
