    Not sure who this is whether it’s a spam or a scam or simply a prank call but I’m very unsettled by my experience with it. Got three consecutive missed calls from it within a minute of each other at 7:30 am which WOKE ME UP, the last had a voicemail which was just someone putting the phone down. Then 10 minutes later got a call from it again to someone saying “hello? hello? hello?” after I had answered which made zero sense as they had called me. Left very confused and unsettled by the persistence of this number, I decided to later call it with my caller ID off to which I got the “hello? Hello? HELLLLOOO?” voice again and I hung up. What unsettled me was the number then calling me again as if it had known it was me and then proceeding to hang up on me back. I decided to call it one last time and said “who is this? Why are you calling me?” To which the voice mumbled “oh yeah I don’t know, just laying on the bed” which is probably just coincidence that I was also laying on my bed at the same time but it freaked me out. I hung up and blocked the number.

    I don’t normally answer calls like this but the persistence of this number at such an early hour upset and confused me. I still have no idea what happened as it didn’t seem to be a telemarketer but it also didn’t sound like a kid making a prank call and is not from an area I know anyone from. It’s supposedly a landline from Sutherland, NSW.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
