Telstra Tech Support Impersonation Reports for 02 7267 5990

Two contributors have flagged calls from 02 7267 5990 (also written as 0272675990) for fraudulent activity impersonating Telstra technical support. The primary report describes a caller with an Indian accent claiming to represent Telstra, alleging an internet security fault requiring immediate attention.

What makes the 02 7267 5990 report particularly notable is how the contributor's prior experience with legitimate Telstra support made them alert to inconsistencies. When the contributor asked which internet connection was affected (private or company), the caller from 0272675990 abruptly terminated the call rather than providing clarification.

What Callers from 02 7267 5990 Claim

The caller impersonating Telstra on 02 7267 5990 stated that the recipient's internet security was at risk due to a technical fault. This is a common entry point for tech support scams, where the false urgency of a security issue is used to pressure victims into granting remote access to their devices.

When the contributor questioned the legitimacy of the call to 02 7267 5990 by asking clarifying questions about which connection was affected, the caller hung up immediately. This abrupt termination is typical of scammers who cannot adapt to being challenged or who lack specific information about the target.

What Happened When the Number Was Called Back

One contributor attempted to call 0272675990 back to verify the call. Instead of reaching Telstra, they received a recorded message identifying itself as the "National Help/Health Line" with a prompt to press a number to restrict calls. This suggests the number 02 7267 5990 may be spoofed or part of a rotating setup designed to redirect callbacks to generic automated messages rather than legitimate customer service.

Rang my mobile purporting to be from Telstra (Indian sounding voice) and started to tell me that my internet security was at risk due to a technical fault. An organization that I am part recently had a problem with its internet router which Telstra actually identified the fault existing and had rung me (now resolved) to advise me of the fault. So I asked him which internet he was referring (private/company) to and he abruptly hung up. When called back, I got a recorded message saying Welcome to the National Help/Health Line (Can't discern exactly) - Pres s (to restrict calls to your number). Don't bother continuing. Number reported and blocked. Reported to DNC Register.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did the caller from 02 7267 5990 hang up when questioned?

The contributor asked which internet connection was affected (private or company), and the caller could not provide a coherent answer because they had no actual information about the target's account. Scammers impersonating Telstra on 02 7267 5990 typically use generic scripts and cannot adapt to detailed questions. This is a strong indicator of fraud.

Is the recorded message I heard when calling back 0272675990 legitimate?

No. When the contributor called back 0272675990, they reached a generic recorded message claiming to be the "National Help/Health Line." This is not a Telstra number and suggests 02 7267 5990 uses spoofed or rotating numbers to misdirect callbacks away from the scammers and avoid investigation.

How can I verify if a call claiming to be from Telstra is genuine?

Never trust caller ID alone. If 02 7267 5990 or any number claims to be Telstra, hang up and call Telstra directly using the number on your phone bill or their official website. Legitimate Telstra support staff will have details about your account; scammers calling from 0272675990 will not.

What should I do if I already gave remote access to someone who called from 02 7267 5990?

Disconnect your device from the internet immediately, change your passwords from a different device, and contact your bank if financial services are on the device. Report the incident to the ACMA at acma.gov.au and to Telstra. Monitor your accounts closely for unauthorized activity.

Why do scammers claim to be from Telstra?

Telstra is Australia's largest telecommunications provider, so impersonating them creates credibility with targets. Scammers calling from 02 7267 5990 rely on this trust to convince people that internet security warnings are legitimate and that remote access requests are necessary for "fixes."

What should I do after blocking 02 7267 5990 on my phone?

Report the number to the ACMA (acma.gov.au) and Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au) so authorities have records of the impersonation attempt. Contributing your experience on Reverseau also helps other Australians identify 0272675990 and avoid falling victim to the same scam.
