Had a similar call, automated message, which immediately sent alarm bells ringing. Did call the number back and when I jumped on the grub who answered about what his name was etc etc, he hung up.
This is a ACT number, so shouldn't be hard to trace and punish these turds.
Total Scam-they rang my mobile and I listeded to a recorded female with an english accent telling me my home was under surveillance. I rang back on the work phone to hear an Indian guy answer then immediately hang up. I searched the internet and discovered this page and also a scam alert from NAB.
Total scam. Don't ring back. Like the ATO is going to put your house under survellience.

Received a call 2 minutes ago. Definitely a scam call. Didn't answer it. They left a crazy message sating I was under investigation. By the looks its a scam.
I just got a call from this number to call them - the number doesn't work from my phone because I have a private number and they just bounce them. Then I called from my mobile which shows number ID and they picked up. The called themselves the "Tax Crime Investigations Unit" and they asked me my name. The ATO always leaves a reference number when they call you and they would normally ask you for that (like all legit collections operations do). When I told him that it was odd that they didn't leave a reference number he hung up on me. It's a scam.
I got this call about 20 mnts ago, it was an automated message telling me I defrauded the ATO and I 'm a suspect. Then I returned the called back and INDIAN guy was answering the call. He got my full name and then did hang up the call.
This is a phone spam number claiming to be from the Australian ATO Criminal investigation team. Voice was a Phillo guy, He asked me my name and I asked him his, to reply he yelled again and I yelled at him.. It ended with "You Moxx Fxx" from him and that made my feeling clear this was a phone spam. ATO does not abuse people even if they are rough tax payers.
Just take your time to talk to these and burn their time so that they don't get time to call some more victims.
I received a call this morning from this number. The caller had an Indian accent, which I had trouble understanding. I got the gist of what he said.. Something about ATO, a criminal investigation etc. He knew my name. I said to the guy "I don't believe you. Get an honest job like everyone else and don't call me again!" I then hung up.

Husband got a call from this number - it was a recorded message in a woman's voice, urging him to call her back immediately. He called and a male answered and in a very strong Indian accent asked for my husband's name. Husband refused to give his name and surprisingly he knew his full name. Very strange story about husband owning money. He didn't buy it, the guy got angry and hung up.
Called from this number claiming to be from ATO and that they had an affidavit in my name claiming that I owed money. Ha ha!!
Scam caller. Let it go to message bank and it was an automated message telling me I defrauded the ATO and that my house was under surveillance. Very creative.
