I received a recorded message which was computerised telling me that "It is the Australian tax office and this message was intended for the recipient and we have tried to contact you several times but you have not returned our call. Don't delay in returning our call as time is running out. This call is with regards to a tax audit. Please phone Paul Mason on 0261761331 immediately, Thankyou and have a nice day".

I ignored it once and they have left another recorded message again today.

Think I might work out how to block these guys!!

I also got an automated call from this number with the same message. I did return the call and the male with a foreign accent informed me that I was being investigated for tax evasion. I was suspicious because we are honest with our tax returns. I asked some questions and he wasn't forthcoming with satisfactory verification and he ended up ending the call on me after telling me I need a lawyer and he will see me in court. I called the ATO to check if what he was claiming to be true and they said that I am all clear and the call was a hoax.

A recorded message came from this number indicating it was the audit section of the taxation office who had been trying to contact me and that there would be consequences if I didn't ring them back. My accountant rang the tax office to check - seems like a scam!
