Detailed Analysis of the Reports
User testimonials detail a variety of calls from this number, often characterised by muddled communication and heavy foreign accents. Callers typically introduce themselves as representatives of the ATO, claiming that the recipient is under investigation for tax evasion. These tactics aim to instil fear and pressure individuals into complying with demands without adequately verifying the authenticity of the caller.
- Impersonation of Authority: The caller poses as an official from the ATO, using names like “David Jackson” or “Steve Martin.” This tactic is designed to leverage trust in official government institutions.
- Threats of Legal Action: Many reports mention alarming phrases such as "warrant for your arrest" or "your house is under surveillance." Such intimidation is common in scams to provoke immediate reactions.

What Our Users Reviewed
We had a call which was similar about the ATO and it is a scam please nobody fall for it and don't believe you owe money or you are being watched.
This is obviously a scam.
We are tax agents and our client called us in distress advising they received a call from this number telling them they were evading the tax office. We called on the clients behalf to get name details and the man said his name was Steve Martin from ATO, when asked which office he was from he advised he was at the Airport Canberra. He had an American accent and there was a lot of background noise which may mean he was answering calls through a computer. We then contacted the ATO to advise them of this.
Scam saying they are from ato.
I received a phone call yesterday saying they had an affidavit for tax ivasion forwarded from the ATO and a warrant for my arrest. This man (with thick accent) even started raising his voice when I told him to forward me the paperwork via post. I finally hung up in his ear. These scammers know nothing more than what they could get from the White Pages and need to be shut down to avoid scamming some poor unsuspecting people.
Just got home to listen on my voice mail some guy telling me my house is under surveillance, they are from ATO from Canberra and there is a warrant against me. What a scum bags. Anyone getting this call or message just hung up.
Came up as 0011261720192 on my caller I.D. Foreign accent, could hardly understand. Said he was calling from "Can-berra" regarding something (could not understand half the stuff this guy said), but finished the sentence asking me if I had a lawyer to represent me at my hearing. I hung up. Looking at other reports of this number, it says they claim they're from the ATO and prosectuting tax evasions.
Claimed to be David Jackson.
From Tax Division.
02 61720192.
I have never herd or tax division.
I just tell them I am getting that person. I have to go next door Please wait. I do not hang up phone. Half hour later I just come back and hang up. This may stop them from trying to scam another 4 or 5 people. If we all do this how much more insufficient there scam will be.
Scammers trying to say that they were from the ATO investigating tax evasion and to please call them back. Disgusting. I hope this post stops someone from being scammed!
