    Scottish accent, almost sounded like he called it the "ITO" that was claiming I committed tax fraud. Pretty funny really, it was so poor. Hopefully no none gets sucked in, especially as our town has had a bit of stress with bushfires this week, so possibly someone vulnerable could be caught off guard. Report it to your local police, at least they can then send a general message to the community that this is occurring and to be weary. Cheers.

    I received a threatening voicemail message from a person with a non-Aussie accent saying there was a case against me for tax evasion and tax fraud and if I wanted to prevent further action I must ring the number (02) 6140 3479. So I Googled the number. It is definitely a scam, probably intending to extort money from fearful people by pretending to be the government.

    Same message as others have received. I contacted the actual ATO and confirmed this is a scam. So sad.

    Got a phone call (voicemail) from this mob (sounded Filipino male) alleging there was a criminal case against me for tax fraud/tax evasion - the message was so generic/threatening I knew it had to be a scam.

    Caller with British accent, accused us of being tax evaders and tax fraudsters. Must make contact asap or civil authority will peruse a criminal case against us.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
