I received three calls within two minutes, and my phone flagged them as suspected spam, so I declined the calls. However, I answered the fourth call as a joke. The recorded message said, "Hi, I'm Andrew, your local member. This is NOT a robo call," but it was clearly a robo call. I've blocked this number now.
After reading comments about this number, I’m relieved I missed the call intentionally. I decided not to call back, as I've had experiences with this number and others like it being scams. They did not leave a message, and I plan to block this number after finding this helpful service.
The caller identified themselves as a Federal Member, which does not hold the ACT Government responsible for any breach of privacy regarding this matter.

Came home to a message on our answering system... YEP! Was the same message other people are commenting about.... John Matthews regarding commonwealth public prosecutions having a law suit filed against my name concerning a financial tax fraud 4 people live in our house... So who's name??? Tried to ring the number back... No answer rang out.
Was starting to really worry thinking OMG. Then I thought bit suss not having an answering service for a government facility who don't normally ring for thing like this... They send you a bluey. So I looked up his name and number on Google! What a wanker... Who gives him the right to invade out thoughts like that. If my elderly mother or any other older person for that matter got this call they would probably just about have a heart attack.

I just received a message from an older fella with an Irish accent. At first I got a fright when he first mentioned an ATO law suit against me. After listening a few times it started to sound a bit dodgy. He had trouble pronouncing some of the words, like "Director", and his grammar was not correct. He basically sounded uneducated, and possibly a bit drunk. The exact message was (the first bit was cut off):
... from the Australian Taxation (sic) Office representing the CDPP, that’s the Commonwealth Director(mumble) of Public Prosecutions. We have a lawsuit file on (sic) your name, concerning a financial tax frauds (sic) case against you. We need this matter to be responded urgent (sic). The number is 0261403419. I’ll repeat the number it’s 0261403419. This is John Matthews representing the Commonwealth Director(mumble) of Public Prosecution calling about an urgent ATO matter. Call me back immediately. Thank you.
I'm going to ignore this one. If the ATO want to talk to me they have my address - they can write, like they usually do.
Came home to the same message as other people, john Mathews calling regarding commonwealth public prosecutions having a law suit filed against my name concerning a financial tax fraud.

It sounds like a computer voice, and to call Canberra on 02 6140 6438.
Didn't mention our names, but so sounds like a scam.

I too received a recorded message today from this number. I knew it was a scam but could not get through to tell him to p off.
Just had a message to call number. Did so and had a heated discussion with one John Matthews. No way I owe money. He hung up once he knew I was not going to co operate. .
I had a call from John Matthews (Overseas number) stating he was calling on behalf of the ATO and that I had a lawsuit against me, so I need to call 0261403419. Googled the number immediately and found several comments stating it is a scam.

The ATO puts everything in writing - they would never cold-call about a matter like this. I guess they may call after numerous letters were not answered. But I have to admit, it sounded a little worrisome when I heard the message, but immediately googled his name, number and message. These scammers are getting beyond the joke!

Received call on the 22nd May saying I needed to contact John Matthews urgently as he was from the PPO for the Aust Tax Office. Tried to call back but the phone is engaged.
Also received a call today from this number with the same story, however he knew my full name so to start with it sounded very legit. After questioning, I was able to get information about him such as a badge number and claiming to be a federal police officer. I begin to worry and my daughter googled the number and found out it was a scam. When I said this to "John Mathews" he hung up immediately.

I had exactly the same phone call as everyone else has listed - funny thing is that I do have a tax bill and was a bit worried for a while - until I read all the other comments here - obvious a scam but could trick people who do have a tax bill??

Same story. message left by John Matthews. Gives a partial Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions "reference number", then mentions a law suit drawn against the listener (does not identify the intended message recipient), requests a call back saying the matter is urgent and in reference to an AVO.
The fact that it does not identify the intended recipient and that it discloses the "nature of the law suit" (a breach of confidentiality) woyld indicate a high degree of likelihood that this is a scam, moreso since seeing the other stories of the same thing.

I just received a call from john Mathews about a law suit & avo it is a scam I rang the number back & a engaged single keeps coming up these people have nothing better to do they must have such a boring life.
Same call from Commonwealth Dept of Public Proscutions and that I need to call back urgently re case against me. Once again the message was left to no particular person. Called the number and I could hear that the call went to several different jumps and sounds like a voip line ring to me. The call was not answered and just dropped out. Soiunds like another scam.

Received a call from 0261403419 claiming as well to be John Mathews from Commonwealth Directors Public Prosecution regarding tax fraud & to call them immediately. Sounds like a scammer. As they didn't ask for anyone in the message left.
They phoned, left urgent message to call John Matthews re commonwealth matter. I returned call, John Matthews unavailable, person used name David claimed to be ATO, stated I am to be arrested for tax evasion, told them to send police..... They hung up on me! Have yet to be arrested................. THIS IS A SCAM.

I received a phone message from a person claiming to be John Matthews saying he was from the Commonwealth Workers (or maybe Works) of Public Prosecution and that I should call him on (02) 6140 3419. Sounds like a scam to me.
