    I just received the same scam voicemail message on my home answering service. Officer Mark Brown ringing, advising that we had to contact Officer Jason Matthews. The caller didn't ask for anyone in particular by name, just to ring the NSW phone number 02 6140 3411. Issued threats that if we didn't ring urgently, the ATO would be forced to take action against us!!!! Give us a break!! How dumb are these people!! (and I am being polite).

    Got message from "Officer Mark Brown" of ATO. Told to call back "Officer Jason Matthews" and it's so urgent that he'll give me the direct personal number. Which is this one. One hour before this another message was left from Jason O'Connor saying there was a lawsuit file against my name re tax evasion. Funny that he didn't mention my name. That return number was 0261403486. SCAM CITY!!! Spread the word.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
