Comes thru with a recorded message requesting a call back..."tax investigation" or some such bullshit. They asked for my tax file number which I didn't have at my finger tips... Asked for an explaination.. They hung up on me... Thinking I smell a rat!
Can also confirm that this is a scam, I rang them back and played stupid and mumbled a bunch of numbers when they asked for my number, they got angry and hung up. I received a lady with an Indian accent.
I was told its ATO and please carry out an investigation on this number.
Identity Theft.
I received a call from this number it was an automated message telling me it was the Australian Taxation office crime division and needed to call a number straight away.
I then redialled the same number, said they were the ATO and said I needed to update my credit card details. The ATO would not do this.
Got a phone call on my mobile from 0261008438.
It was an automated recorded message - male voice.
Said the message was time sensitive, that I was being investigated for a tax crime and to ring the ATO on the above number immediately and ask for JOHN SMITH. The message said that if I choose not to respond immediately it could further add to me being penalised.

Just got a phone call from this number the message stated as the same as the others... Owing to the ATO..Scam.
Basically the same as everyone else with a couple of twists. A man with a heavy Pakistani accent called me on 17 Feb 2017 at about 3pm. He had my name and a partial on my email, also my PO Box address. Said that I owed the tax office $1682 from 2011 and 2015. Asked me if I had a barrister who could represent me!
He identified himself as John Wright of the ATO Investigation Team.
Badge ID BS (I think for bull $hit!) 4982.
Employee Code 0693.
My case file was CW23996.
Warrant ID AC248963.
He said the complaint against me was 3 counts:
1. Violation of Commonwealth Tax Statutes.
2. Violation of the Tax Act (which I thought would be the same as #1!).
3. Willful misrepresentation to a government official.
If I didn't pay some or all of the $1682 now I would be dragged to the courthouse and it would cost me $40.000 to resolve the matter!
Told him it was a scam, which he insisted that if I didn't pay now I'd end up in the courthouse and held there until I paid (funny, I thought folks who broke the law went to gaol!). I called bull$hit and he said just wait... The AFP would be around in an hour to pick me up. I asked where, at my PO Box! He hung up then.
Reported it to the ATO Scam line (1800008540). They took the details. The lass at the ATO said they like to hear about these scam attempts... It gives them some background.
Just got a call from a man with an Indian sounding accent. Had my name. Said that I owed the tax office $1500 from 2008 and 2010. Asked me if I had a criminal attorney who could represent me! Ha. Total scam. I told him I knew he was a con artist and hung up on him then blocked the call. Do not give these people any information about yourself.
Answered a recorded message telling me I was subject to tax fraud and to call another number - just hung up - waste of time.

Got scammed from that number today.
Just returned a missed call from this number. An Indian sounding guy answered, claiming to be from the Australian Tax Office. He said there had been a complaint made against my name and informed me that if I did not co-operate the AFP would come to my door and put me "behind bars". I laughed and he said "oh, do you think this is funny?" and hung up. What a moron.
Contacted by someone claiming to be from the ATO. They said I was subject to a tax audit and I suggested that I wasn't. They immediately hung up.
