I got this one as well, quite a few times. Another ATO Crime Division scam. Officer named "John Smith", how apt. Even if it were really ATO, they usually send a letter first. I tried calling back once, the guy says do you have a criminal attorney. Answer, yes! See what you get. These people need to not do this.
Idiots! a French sounding man by the "name" of Jack Austin called to say I've been audited and found to owe 1400$ and would I like to settle out of court??? Ummmm..... Bugger off Jack! Get a real job!!
They called my work, a very very busy doctors surgery. When I called back and started to ask questions they very quickly hung up.
Another ATO scam call - unbelievable how many of these I have been getting - weekly from different numbers for the last 4 weeks.
If you manage to pick up try to keep the guys on the line and waste their time - e.g. provide fake credit card details.
This was an ATO scammer.
