    Received a call today - I answered with my name and they confirmed my name and then hung up abruptly. Definitely a scam. Shortly after I received a phone call from +44 7384 298521. Too coincidental to have two in a row within a minute. We need to be careful...

    Person called to state 'you are from Optus yes', I said, 'No', the caller hung up straight away.

    Although we all know this is a scam caller, I would note the scam caller in this instance is not proficient at his chosen trade.

    1.5/10 rating as a scam caller professional.

    Would not come again.

    Recommend they seek a trade or some other profession.

    Got a call from a man saying he was with Optus, asking if my Optus services were having trouble lately. I said yes, he apologised for that and offered me a discount on my mobile plan. When I told him I use a prepaid service he offered cash back on it. I asked if that meant he needed my bank details, which he said yes to. I told him I don't trust my bank account going to anyone and hung up.

    I'm unsure whether he was really from Optus or not, since the number does not appear to be associated with Optus aside from these exact calls that nobody seems to trust.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
