I called back using a different number and the call was answered saying it was the Australian tax office and they requested my name. They then supposedly looked up my file and said that I had been part of a random tax audit, they had found irregularities in my account. They asked if I came from Gippsland and requested my postcode. At this stage I told them that I found the call highly irregular and hung up.
Automated American accent left a voice message on my mobile claiming 'The reason for my call is there is a lawsuit case being filed under your name (NB my actual name was not mentioned). The moment you receive this message I want you to get back to me on my department division number 0261004424.' I believe it is a scam - as when I attempted to phone back on the number provided which was also the same number recorded on my mobile as being where they dialled from (0261224424) the phone rang out unanswered.
