Left a recorded message on my voicemail. ASIO agent "John Smith" told me to leave my work and call back immediately as it was a very serious and time sensitive matter. Also something about "if you don't call back or I don't hear from your attorney then all I can do is wish you good luck". Seem to be getting numbers from Whois listings of URL owners. Isn't the ATO or the AFP going to do anything about it?

Just received a call also, threatening and verbally abusive, called me a mother f*ker and hung up. What concerns me is he knew what l still owed on my tax!!!!

Just received a call also. Recorded robotic voice asking me to call them back immediately or Quote' suffer the consequences. This, I thought was a little unprofessional.
I called the number back as requested. Dodgy Indian sounding guy started banging on about a Tax Debt that needed to be finalised before the matter would get worse. I asked him for more information, he just kept banging on this the same lines.
So I told him to go F*k Himself, you can’t go calling me up with half the information and if you don’t have the rest of the information, don’t call me again. He told me to go F*k Myself too….

Yep just got the message and rang the number back to some dodgy Indian accent claiming to be the ATO. Hahaah They answered in less than 3 rings and directly to a human voice.
Now.. I have called ATO (20 min Wait Min), Centerlink(forever on hold) and even worked for governments.
This alone is a dead giveaway. HAHAHAHHAH.
Also got this call with a robotic voice saying they were from the ATO, and I needed to call this number, and if I didn't that I was under investigation, and I needed to call to clear my name. What a load of rubbish.
Yes, somehow the scammers got my number as well. The American accent was a dead-giveaway anyway, but it's so terrible these people can scare innocent [elderly] people and try to rob them. Always check first, is my motto! Thanks for all the helpful comments to confirm my suspicions.
This is a scam. They are randomly calling people. Please warn elderly friends and neighbours about this. Remind them never to give their personal details over the phone.
Explain to them that Australian Government Departments would never request this information over the phone - and will always contact people by writing to them.

Got a call from this number, they left a message from the ATO regarding an outstanding tax debt from 2008 for $1700. I had to pay it straight away or they would seek legal action.
I phoned them back and explained I would contact my solicitor. I tried calling them back but now they are blocking my call. This is a scam. I have let the ATO know and they are aware of it.

When I asked the same story was given.. From the ato blah blah, when I asked "what do you want?".
Money he replied, I replied, "when you find some, let me know I'm looking for some too!".
