Understanding the Scam Behind 02 6100 4051

The phone number 02 6100 4051 / 0261004051 has emerged as a notorious source of alarm for many Australians. Identified overwhelmingly as a scam, it masquerades as a call from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), instilling fear by claiming that legal repercussions, including an arrest warrant, are imminent.

Based on numerous user reports, this number delivers a dire message through automated calls, often featuring a robotic voice with an American accent. Callers are told that failure to respond will lead to severe legal consequences, including the issuance of an arrest warrant. Many concerned individuals have checked their MyGov accounts, only to find no issues, affirming the fraudulent nature of these calls.

Why is this Considered a Scam?

  • Automated Threats: The use of a robotic voice makes the call feel impersonal and suspicious. Scammers often resort to this tactic to churn out calls swiftly, targeting a broad audience.
  • Lack of Verification: True representatives of the ATO would not threaten immediate arrest without prior notice or explanation regarding tax matters.
  • High Pressure Tactics: The urgent nature of the threat - "call this number or face arrest" - is designed to manipulate fears and pressure individuals into responding or providing personal information.

How To Handle Calls from This Number

If you receive a call from 02 6100 4051:

  • Do Not Engage: Avoid calling back or interacting with the number. Engaging can confirm your number as active for scammers.
  • Document the Call: Note down any details from the call, such as time, content of the message, and your immediate feelings. This can be helpful for reporting to authorities.
  • Report It: Inform the ATO or the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) about the scam call you received.
  • Block the Number: Take precautionary measures by blocking the scam number to prevent future calls.

In conclusion, the unsettling call from 02 6100 4051 / 0261004051 should be treated as a clear scam aimed at intimidating and defrauding recipients. I just received a call from this no. A recorded message started - with an american male accent. Stating that legal proceedings were starting for tax reasons and if I did not comply that I "would be arrested" and to call this no. I can only think that if you respond and call the no. (they didn't answer by the way) that confirms that you are a person and you go on another list....
