The phone number 02 6100 3385 / 0261003385 has raised significant concern among Australians, with numerous reports labelling it as a scam. The callers behind this number typically impersonate officials from the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) and often claim to represent the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), alleging legal action due to tax issues or other financial offences.

How the Scam Operates

According to various user reports, the calls generally feature an individual with a strong Indian accent who may claim that your house is under surveillance or that you owe a sum of money. This tactic leverages fear and urgency as they pressure you to return their call, often making threats of immediate legal action or arrest if you do not comply.

Key Signs of a Scam

  • Fake Identifications: The callers claim to be from credible organisations such as the ATO or the CDPP, which is a clear red flag.
  • High-Pressure Tactics: Their tactics involve delivering urgent messages that provoke anxiety, urging you to call back immediately.
  • Inconsistent Information: Users have pointed out discrepancies, such as the number not being a toll-free line, which would typically be used by official agencies for communication.
  • Abusive Behaviour: Reports of receiving abusive language when challenged or called back suggest an unprofessional nature.

On Monday 28 Sep 2015 I received THREE calls from an indian-sounding female who stated it was an automated call from the Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions. It was a message left on my answering machine. She stated I was to call this number back immediately as I had a lawsuit filed against me and my home address was under surveillance.

I've had 4 calls from this number. I called & argued with a man with an Indian accent who hung up, I called back with another argument & he hung up. Now I get a clicking noise & dial tone or engaged signal. Worried that they seem to have people's addresses on here, how do they get that when the number is picked at random by computer?

Just received same message. I believe this is a total fake. Please disregard. This is not the way to approach someone about a law suit.

First tip off that it was possibly not real was when she said it was Canberra and gave a Sydney number... Now I see here that it is rubbish. So thankful for this website! I worry for all the people who trust what these awful scammers say and have their money stolen.

Live in Brisbane and received 3 calls from this number. First one I told them they were frauds and after getting string of abuse and foul language they hung up only to ring back couple of seconds later. Cut the call off so after a few hours they called back and I let it ring out so they left message on answering machine telling me I had to ring that number immediately. Suspicious right from start and now see it is definitely a scam. Be careful people as they not nice people.

Received a call from an Indian accented officer claiming to be Jack Dawson (Titanic???) Told us that there was a legal claim against our company from the ATO for $3.456.12 for a range of taxation offenses including providing misleading information. He tried scaring our accountant that he was personally liable and we had two options, pay up or go to court. He was quite insistent that we only had 30 mins to make a decision. Googled the number and found this page. It's a scam.

The absolute giveaway that it is a hoax is when the Indian accented caller pronounces her employing department as "Persecutions" instead of "Prosecutions" ha ha!

Received phone call from this number at a business in Brisbane. It is an automated message claiming to be from the CDPP and a lawsuit has been made against us by the ATO. Message stated our address was under surveillance and we must return the call immediately to their "hotline" or face a lawsuit. Was immediately suss when the hotline was a standard landline number not a 1800/1300 etc number. Googled the number, found this page.
