    I called this number and a guy with a fake American accent picked up the phone and said that he was from the ATO office in Canberra and that I owed the ATO money.

    I received a call from the same number on my mobile this morning and the caller some Martin told me that he was calling from the ATO and there were 4 offences registered in my name and I replied that I would go to the ATO office myself and look into the matter as I smelt a rat.. I think it is a scam and needs to be investigate.

    I called this number and a chinese accent person picks up the phone and when I asked for the outstanding amount and when I repeated the case id number which he gave, he disconnects the line.

    I think police should take this matter seriously and must investigate who is behind this and what this person is up to.

    My husband got a call today and he was told that we owe ATO money and need to pay immediately. He apparently said they have been trying to contact him for the last 5yrs and have not been able to contact.

    They said that they would be sending someone the next morning to our house for collecting the money.

    Idiots trying to scam honest hard-working people who pay their taxes in black n white.

    Got a call from this number saying he was from the ATO and that I need to pay up immediately or else I'd be put behind bars. Checked with my accountant who verified with the ATO and we realised it was a scam.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
