    I recieved 5 missed calls and messages from the number 0261003076 in regards to an arrest warrant being issued in my name (which they could say what my name was) I attempted to call them back but the number has been disconnected. I then received 3 missed calls from 0261003077 in regards to the same thing, once again when I tried to call number has been disconnected. Only the last phone call stated it was the ATO. Is there somewhere we can call to get these messages to stop??? This is cruel and nasty for people to think they can scam innocent people like this and some people like the elderly would be extremely distressed about a message like this. Anyone with any information for me to make a formal complaint please let me know. Thanks.

    I am in Northwest Sydney and received the same scam message claiming to be the ATO warning me of an arrest warrant issued in my name! Would be very distressing to naive or elderly people.

    3 days in a row from the same ATO scam. Had heard they were doing the rounds.1st phone call I accidently answered but was very quick to tell them that I was a retired ATO Fraud investigator (I'm not!) they hung up really quick. The second call the next day I just listened to and then left my phone off the hook for 30 mins without ending the call (ties up their line). This 3rd time 5 minutes ago, I let go to the answer phone and they said an arrest warrant has been issued and I must call 02 61003076 immediately - which I have not done.

    They are certainly persistent.

    We had a message left on our answering machine saying they were from the ATO in relation to an arrest warrant and to ring them on 0261003076. They did not say who the warrant was to be issued to. We did not call.

    I have had several messages left on my answering machine by an electronic recording saying it is the ATO and to avoid a warrant for my arrest being issued, to call 02 6100 3076. I called the number and got someone trying to put on an Indian type accent and convince me it was really the ATO. When I laughed, they hung up.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
