    My husband received a call from this number today - so phoned him (David Brown) back and asked some questions 1 his name 2. When was the paperwork sent out 3. Email address he quite upset at that 4. When and who did the audit on the account at that one he just thanked me for my time and hung up. When I tried to phone back there was not answer. One thing that was very prominent in his message, was that we needed to get a lawyer because my husband was going to be arrested (jailed for 3 - 5 years)if we didn't pay NOW by credit card or debit cart. Guess they don't like it when you turn the tables and ask questions.

    I received an automated message form this umber saying they were with the taxation office but it was an american voice and talked about "if I didn't call back or if my Attorney didn't call back then there could be severe penalties".

    In australia we wouldn't use a computerised American voice for these messages!.

    Clearly a scam!

    Got a call from a recorded voice claiming to be John Smith from the ATO which said I had to call the number 02 6100 3069 to resolve an issue with the ATO and that he would take the matter further if he didn't hear from me or my attorney. I am positive this is a scam and will not be calling this number.

    Got a missed call from this number and a computer automated message claiming to be from the ATO, the nature of the message was about it being time sensitive and stated name was 'John Smith' also mentioned that if I did not call back or action '.. I wish you good luck ..' which seemed threatening or just plain strange. I would like this number to be investigated.

    Same as Robert. Got a robocall telling me to ring this number immediately. The message was from "Officer John Smith" and did not give any independent way of verifying the message, e.g. a page on the ATO web site.

    Looks like a scam.

    This is dodgy some guy is claiming to be with the ATO Crime division and is saying that I owe him $3.878 to pay. He gave his name as Roy Miller and his employee number 175418.

    I asked him to provide supporting evidence and documentation then asked why I did not receive an official tax investigation notice, he replied with I'm being taken to Federal Court.

    Be very careful and ignore this number.

    I got a robocall (with an American accent), from this number just this second about a "time sensitive ATO Tax matter". I'd say that it's a scam.100% certain.

    The phasing it used was moronic, obviously the person behind the scam isn't too bright.

    Just got a call from this number with a robotic American male voice that said he was 'Officer John Smith' with the Australian Tax Crime Division or something like that. Told me to put aside what I was doing and call back immediately, otherwise he can only wish me good luck as the matter unfolds... Sounds totally legit....

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
